Hit & Run
I have been a victim of a hit & run accident.
I was stationary at a supermarket road junction when some idiot came at a very high speed round the corner smashing into one side of my front bumper causing considerable damage. He sped off at speed not having any intention of stopping. I remained stationary for some time out of duty to remain at the scene and shock.
When I did move off the idiot was no where to be seen and had not stopped or returned to me.
I have no details of the other vehicle apart from colour.
There were possibly witnesses but everyone in such a hurry nobody stopped
What can I do now?
Do I have to pay up for the damage or claim on my policy which is unfair as no my fault?
The only crumb of comfort is that the ba**ard probably caused a lot more damage to their vehicle
Or is there any other options available

Unless you can trace them in some way, how do you plan to claim off their insurance?
You could report it to the police (failure to stop at the scene of a collision), but the chances of them taking the time to trawl local CCTV for any identification are slim, since there's no injuries just a bit of vehicle damage.0 -
So...
You don't have their name
You don't have their registration
You don't know the make or model of their car
you only know the colour of it.
Nobody stopped so nobody else can identify it in any way whatsoever?
Unless you can acquire CCTV then you're just about out of luck. Short of going on the local Facebook group page asking if anyone has spotted a car in a certain colour that has considerable damage to the X-portion of their vehicle since X-day, but that's clutching at straws.
Aside from that then i'm afraid you're going to suffer the same thing i did. People are bumholes unfortunately.0 -

I think I would have made some effort to follow him rather than just sitting there.
What can you do, inform your insurance and the police then put in a claim.0 -

And wait for a lot higher premium next renewal whilst the bu*hole goes on to have a happy christmas - I hope not0 -
OP......you say supermarket road junction,is their any chance of cctv from the supermarket shop/petrol station.Although if yes you/police might have to jump through hoops to get access0

It can be a little bit different in reality.
Not to mention it also depends on the type of person you are. For all i know you could've been the sort to be seen on Jeremy Kyle itching to have a punch up with Steve. The OP on the other hand might get scared by their own farts.
Anyway, for the OP ... people on here will tell you you need to contact your insurance company immediately.
Technically you're supposed to but me personally i'd get quotes for the cost of repair from some independent garages and then run some quotes on an insurance comparison ... A) to take out insurance as though you've another years no claims and this incident never happened and thenunless you've got protected no claims, run it as though you've lost some years (a relative of mine lost 2 years for their claim) and you have this claim on record.
See what the outcome is and then decide if you want to contact your insurance company about getting this damage repaired through them.
If you report it to them then that's it, for the next 5 years you'll have to declare it. No it wasn't your fault but then insurance companies don't care, they just want your money.
Been there & suffered it myself. Told the company someone hit me & drove off. I didn't claim to have the damage repaired but i've another 3 years of having to report it & pay for having 'done the right thing' - which lands me out of pocket.
I'll get crucified on here for that point of view but then what else is new. I get moaned at regardless of what i post so it's just another day in the life here. I'm just warning you what happened with me so you can decide whether you want it to happen to you too or not.0 -
+1 for above......think about it and explore all possible solutions before reporting......you never know you might find the ba5tard0
-
OP...easy to say now......get yourself a dash cam0

It's easy to do in reality.
Jeremy Kyle seems more like your tv if the best you can do is advise a bit of fraud.0
