8 x 5 year old defaults, where do I go from here?

The CIFAS marker is likely your big problem along with that number of defaults. Wait for the CIFAS to come off and stop applying for credit for the next 6 months, the hard searches are just adding more negatives. By trying to rush things you are just making matters worse, it makes you look desperate for credit.0

You look desperate for finance. Desperate people are a bit of a red flag for lenders.
You need to completely ignore your credit report and applying for finance/finance products for a year. (by completely ignore i mean stop trying to change it, just be wary of things like fraudulent activity through them).
CIFAS marker probably isnt helping.
Credit card isnt effecting you (well its probably a benefit to you), youve got it, that relationship is established and the only thing it effects on your credit report is the total amount of money you can borrow (ie will reduce the total amount you can borrow) and things like late payments.
The improvements you need to make are to leave it alone for a while, whilst keeping an eye on it.0 -

For sure, I haven't applied for anything in months now and don't intend to apply for anything for a long time.
They actually refused my complaint (Santander) and said they have no recollection of ever adding it and told me to go to CIFAS with the letter of resolution and ask them to remove it. I've just submitted another claim saying CIFAS won't let me remove it and it's their responsibility since they were the ones who added it and they need to get in touch with CIFAS. Does that sound like I've done the correct thing?0 -

Thank you for responding, I haven't applied for anything since March and intend to keep it that way. 3-4 hard searches will be dropping off between now and my next monthly update in January, the hard ones are Transunion/Callcredit as they stay for 24 months and a lot are from June 2018 etc.
Hopefully I can get this CIFAS marker sorted as soon as possible, hopefully Santander do chase it up for me and I've raised another complaint with them regarding this.0 -
Stop applying for credit and ignore any reference to your score and rating.0

Make your payments on the card according to the due date, not your payday.
At some point, you will miss a payment if you pay every four weeks and that will set you even further back.0 -

Fair point, so shall I just set up a full payment d/d for say the 25th of every month? I do have a direct debit set up as a backup but I usually pay it off sooner on pay day.0 -
Just have the DD set to take the full payment on the due date.0

CIFAS cant remove it, it has to be the company that put it on. You need them to remove it. Doesnt matter what CIFAS or anyone else keep telling you, only SANTANDER can remove it by themselves contacting CIFAS. Show Santander the SAR you got from CIFAS and tell them to remove it0
