Car accident no L plates

Options
Hi, I was recently in a minor collision with a vehicle whilst reversing, I was travelling about 3 or 4 mph so no dents just a slight scuff. I did offer to pay but he didn't wanna hear it. It was a little over a week ago and the rain was coming down heavy so I quickly put the front L plate on but decided to reverse to cover (20ft distance) before putting on the back L plate as it was rolling around in the car somewhere and I was having trouble finding it. I don't mind taking the blame, but I'm worried that not displaying my L plate will void my insurance. Should I say that it fell off when reversing due to weather conditions and the other driver wouldn't of seen it or It was displayed and the other driver must of missed it?

As the weather was really bad and I wasn't really sure what I was doing so I just quickly text him my details and got back in my car. I hoped he'd call and reconsider my offer to pay for the damage instead but received a voicemail from my insurance this morning. I was with a qualified driver but they didn't exit the vehicle.

Do not lie, but there is no need to volunteer the fact that you were missing an L plate unless you are actually asked about it. Did the other driver even notice, or care, whether you had your rear L plate on?

    Don't lie to your insurer.

How will they know or be concerned about your missing L plate?

I really don't buy this story.

OP, were you on a driving lesson at the time (whether paid, or unpaid with a friend/relative)? Was the qualified driver not supervising you correctly? Your recollection of events reads like this is something you do on a regular basis.

TBH, when I read this post my first thought was...
Here's somebody with a provisional licence, driving without supervision and without L-plates who's had an accident.

And they've made up a story and posted it here to test out whether people will believe it.

So that, if people here believe it, it might be worth trying it with the insurance company as well.

But I guess I'm just too cynical. Perhaps an insurance company's claims department would just accept everything that a policyholder says without question.

(And maybe it wouldn't occur to them to cross-check the facts with the supervising driver or the 3rd party.)
  • I agree with edddy.
  • Funny how the OP has not come back to update us.
  • I taught someone to drive earlier this year. At no time did they ever get in the car without the L plates on, front and rear. Sometimes I put the plates on, sometimes they did and I checked.

This story does not ring true.

Why would a more experienced and qualified driver not get out to help an inexperienced driver after an all be it, minor bump?!
