Agree with Savingholmes. My OH says it's the same when he goes to Mr S to shop. The outside waiting is well organised but once he gets in the fruit and veg aisles it is every man/ woman for themselves it seems. He gets in and out as quick as he can by using the scan shop system and wears gloves the whole time. The card machine is a problem though as he can't keep gloves on to use it.

I read somewhere, probably on here, that you can use one of those mobile phone dabbers/pens. Worth a try?4

Hello Angela, JoeDenise and Savingholmes - yes indeed supermarkets are challenging places. I think people just focus on their own shopping without giving a thought to anyone else. I'm happy to go to the local greengrocers and butchers and I've bought milk from the petrol station and made my own bread. My elderly relative gets priority delivery with Mr S - mind you it takes a lot of tenacity to actually book one of those slots. I've added a couple of bits for myself to their order. I'll pay for them of course. I felt a bit guilty at first but I need to keep safe to keep them safe.My regular saver has matured which is good news. I'll open another one but I suspect the interest rate will be lower, however the principle of saving each month by direct debit works well for me as I'm still not as disciplined as I might be.8

Well done for getting a slot - a lot of people have been unable to.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Yes indeed getting a priority slot is a bit like getting 3 numbers on the lottery -I used to wonder "how hard can that be?" Now I know it takes a bit of luck to log in when slots are available.
i did my April manual savings transfer today. There should be a bit more left to save when I get to payday but I prefer to have the cushion in the current account until my next wages hit the account.I'm starting to believe that I can get to "one month ahead" with my expenditure and bills It won't happen this month as I still have the pre-lockdown credit card spending to pay off on 25th of this month but next month's credit card bill is on track to be very low. This is greatly helped by my main leakage spend of eating out being out of scope this month. 😇3 -
busy day at work today. Lots of calls and skypes and not much time to do any work. I need a couple of quiet hours tomorrow to enable me to feel in control of my emails again. On an MSE note I'm amazed how long a little bar of soap lasts even at a time of extreme hand washing 👏4

https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/whats-on/shopping/meet-22-year-old-who-18108336 This app can apparently help you get an online slot
It would be great if you can get to one month ahead

thanks savingholmes that's really useful. I feel very guilty putting things for myself in the home delivery slot but rationalise it by thinking that when I'm not queuing at the supermarket I can make myself useful helping my elderly relative. I do, of course, pay for my items. I think Catholic guilt is deeply ingrained 😇A busy week at work - I do sometimes feel envious of people that aren't working but I expect most people would rather be back to work and normality.
in MSE news I've had an email to say my ISA is maturing and will transfer to an account offering ,,,, 0.1% interest ... how generous (not!). I've moaned on here before about having a mortgage with a 15% interest rate and then finally having savings when interest rates are 0.1%. So this isn't a moan - honest 😈3 -
What's your mortgage interest rate? Did you mean 15%? Sorry - was that in the 70s - not now surely?Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
