We are thoroughly enjoying our short break and the weather has been glorious. We ate our lunch at a beach cafe without our coats on - how wonderful is that at the end of February.
I will do our end of month budget sort out when we get home but it looks like there will be some surplus to distribute. I do struggle with the fluctuating nature of the holiday pot because although it builds up it frequently gets spent. The balance of our Channel Islands accommodation is due at the end of March so the balance will plummet then. I do know that we are having lots of fun on our jaunts and are budgeting accordingly - I just don't like the funds dropping down. Ironically I never took much notice when my credit card balance was forever on the upward trajectory.5 -

You're doing so well BC. I totally get the feeling but also remember, that if you're not spending it on fun, it's just sitting in a bank account gathering dust. Your trips away are such a source of joy for you both and long may that continue.2

I have such envy at the sneaky getaway. I'm reining myself in as I have a big holiday coming soon and all the budget is allocated for that, but I would love a night somewhere new.

Thank you @Makingabobor2, @RebeccaPAgain and @KeepOnKnitting.
sounds like you have got a good trip to look forward to @KeepOnKnitting but I think that after the long January and February wintery days a quick trip away seems very appealing.
we are back from our travels and mostly unpacked. We did our washing and drying yesterday at the air bnb so that has been put away. Our excess food has come home with us so we can adjust our shopping list to take account of extra tea bags, coffee, butter, jam and apple juice. We had our breakfast at the beach this morning which has kept us going all day - well apart from sharing a twix on the way home but as it was shared it hardly counts does it?
I'm feeling very refreshed and looking forward to a productive MSE week ahead.

I love that you're so mse you did the laundry and drying at the air bnb on your break away 😂🩷
Sharing a twix definitely doesn't count2 -
When we used to holiday in villas we always did the washing there before travelling home with suitcases full of clean clothes 😆I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)2

Now I want a twix!!!!
Love that feeling of coming home with excess food and being able to reduce the shopping bill for the following week!1 -
PIP - there was a washing machine, laundry tabs and a clothes line so it seemed rude not to avail ourselves of the facilities 😉
dancercise was cancelled this morning so I got over my disappointment and went for a swim. Managed 22 lengths despite Mr Splashy hurtling up the middle of the lane leaving a tidal wave in his wake. Mr Splashy was also wearing very small speedos and was not a pretty sight - luckily Beryl had already finished her morning swim/chat with the golden girls.
Friends are popping round tomorrow and as it's going to be sunny we are going to make pizzas in the garden. I bought some individual cherry gelato from Lidl's Italian selection and a bottle of Pinot Grigio so it will be just like being in Tuscany 😎.5 -
Our pizza and gelato afternoon worked very well and it was a relaxing and sociable way to catch up. Yesterday we had another visitor who is a long standing friend of MrBC and who, to put it bluntly is a greedy guest although to be fair he would be the first to use that description about himself too. I've given up cakes and biscuits for Lent so the friend kindly finished off our biscuits. We made meatballs and pasta for dinner and bulked the sauce out with cannellini beans. I made apple and plum crumble and custard for pud as crumble isn't cake is it??
after 2 days in a row of visitors I've enjoyed a quieter day today. Managed 24 lengths at swimming today, not because I've turned into an Olympian but because the pool emptied out at about 20 lengths so it became much easier to do backstroke without fear of collision. Did a 20 minute burst of house tasks which involved sorting out our multitude of towels. I found myself perusing soft and pretty towels in dunelm the other day and dragged myself away safe in the knowledge that we already have more than enough towels. Now they are sorted it will be easier to rotate them.
We've spent a big chunk of our entertainment budget pot on concert tickets for the summer. It's our favourite venue and it's an opportunity to see a big name in a 3000 seat venue. I ♥️ Gary 😉3
