The South of the river/North of the river debate was definitely started by @Pennysintopounds because of their dubious football affiliations - honest guv it wasn't me and I never done nuffink
I need to fess up to slipping out of the SW London postcode area and into a neighbouring county many years ago. In fact when I bought my first property in the 1980's my teeny tiny budget could have bought me a truly nasty bedsit in a converted house on a main road in SW London or a little 1 bedroom house with garden about 1/2 hour away in Surrey.@PennysIntoPounds - I've pondered your suggestion that I might congratulate the team currently at the top of the table but unfortunately I just can't. 😉 However as a concession I can say that in the midst of a dire season my team took 3 points from Spurs and your closest rivals only got 1 point against us so I think that was a generous gesture and I hope you are satisfied with that. Happier to discuss top of the WSL though where there is a closer battle between our teams .
so November is nearly finished and it's gone ok money wise. There is still some money in the grocery budget that won't be spent and some surplus in the current account. Despite a heavy onslaught of spending the Christmas budget is ok which makes me glad I've saved into it each month. On 1st December I'm looking forward to adding up the interest from my Christmas, holiday and entertainment pots as I pledged (to myself) that I would give that amount to the Salvation Army / Crisis at Christmas appeal.
took part in the octopus energy saving 90 minutes tonight. We were out for the first 30 minutes anyway so despite a chilly evening it wasn't too much of a hardship.2 -

Well done on your excellent budgeting, and what a thoroughly lovely thing to do

@PennysIntoPounds - we went to the seaside for a short but bracing walk on the pebbly beach and a lovely lunch at our favourite fishy restaurant. It wasn't cheap but the quality of the food was fabulous and the owners have created such a great relaxed atmosphere that we felt refreshed and revived by our visit. I always had a tedious 2 hour work call on a Wednesday afternoon so this felt like a real mid-week treat.
You are right though that it's proper cold especially during the energy saving 90 minutes ⛄️2 -
That my dear is exactly how to be doing retirement, good for you.

@PennysIntoPounds - I do like passing the milestone of the shortest day. When I used to commute for work I disliked leaving for work in the dark, being indoors in an office all day and then going home in the dark. Returning to the office after the Christmas break it felt like the light was returning and Spring was on its way.
@savingholmes - yes the beach was cold but it certainly refreshed and invigorated. An early start today as I was able to help out by taking dgd to school. This involved arriving at their house at very early o'clock so parents could get to work. It was nice to help her get ready, do her hair, make her breakfast and sing Christmas songs on the drive to school. Then, back to reality with a trip to As da for cat food because the cat is ultra fussy and will only eat a certain flavour of a certain brand and only the "in gravy" variety. The shop was heaving, full of Christmas stuff but devoid of staff on checkouts. Then the gym and a swim which I enjoyed much more than I expected.
a nice relaxing afternoon listening to Strike and making progress with sewing the sleeves into the jumper I've knitted. I so want to start the next knitting project but I know if I do then I'll never get around to finishing this one off.
dinner involved using a frozen curry base and bulking it out with some veggies - quick, tasty and inexpensive.4 -

I love a wintertime walk on the beach. My fondest memory is of one Christmas Day we went to our nearest coast and walked on the beach with the dog followed by a glass of wine/beer in the, pub purely so we could use the loo any excuse 😆 followed by a picnic in the car before heading home to a curry in the slow cooker. Absolute bliss.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)6
