@PennysIntoPounds - sorry won't be able to agree to house swop as I don't usually travel north of the river!

this is my first month without wages since I started my Saturday job in BHS when I was 15.  I felt a bit wobbly about it but as MrBC pointed out the pension money coming into the bank has been previously earned but doesn't require me to go out to work to earn it any more.   We are bridging the next few months until his state pension starts but that was always part of the plan and the extra months I worked means that the gap is very short indeed.

some good financial wins to report which has helped me feel less odd about no actual wages
an eBay sale for £65 of an item that was languishing at the back of the garage
Cashed out £18 cash back from £co from travel insurance
building up this month's survey money (lots of little amounts but it all adds up)
Significant amount of interest received on a lump sum savings account
interest from FD regular saver received

went for a swim today and the gorgeous white cat who hangs around the leisure centre was basking in the sun in the lobby.  Apparently he has a very nice home close by but gets bored when his owner goes to work so he strolls down to the leisure centre for warmth, company and attention.   His presence was making us all smile and admire the approach to their own happiness that cats are able to exhibit.

Ah but noisy neighbour is upstairs from Mr PIPs which is dahn sarf, so legal loophole, I win 😂

That must be a very odd feeling not getting your wage in, not surprised you felt a bit wobbly, but as you and Mr BC say, your pension is still your earnings, just coming in a different form.
And your excellent financial wins are also your wages for putting in the time and energy to make them happen!

Really good to have time and wellness and access and affordability for a swim so also a win in lots of ways, and with bonus cat 😊

    The cat sounds awesome.

I'm looking forward to the day when income rolls in without having to go out and 'earn it' - but I imagine I'd have a wobble too. Sounds like you are filling your time constructively and enjoyable.

  • What excellent reasoning from MrBC - and of course he is absolutely correct too - you do still have earned income, it just require you to have a job to get it!

Lovely cat encounter too - what a smart cookie to wander along to the leisure centre for a fuss!

I didn't realise that you were a Londoner who is prepared to cross the river from North to South.   You must be very fond indeed of MrPIP Apologies for the poor behaviour of the noisy neighbour sarf Londoner. 🫤

thank you @EssexHebridean and @savingholmes - I think the wobble was partly caused as my previous payday dawned.  My pensions are paid on different days of the month so I need to recalibrate my financial month to fit those dates and let my head get used to other dates.

aiming for a productive week - started well with a dancercise class this morning which I really enjoyed.  I'm nearly at the end of the Christmas present buying spree and I'm doing ok with my Christmas budget and I'm doing a bit of wrapping every day (present wrapping not musical rapping).  And I'm delighted to say that I managed to knit the v neck of my latest knitting project.  I tried to do it last week and learned the lesson not to do fiddly knitting whilst watching Shetland.  This results in an inability to count 93 stitches and consequently a pattern that doesn't work.  Luckily I realised after 1 row but I was so disheartened that I couldn't face it again until today.  Just the sewing up to do now - fingers crossed that goes ok.  I've already got the wool for my next project but I'm being strict with myself - no starting lovely new garment until current one if finished.

I am rather fond of him, and he comes up t'north often too, I'm not the one getting nosebleeds from the altitude 😁

Strange that I'm in South London and yet I didn't hear your ringing congratulations for us being top of the league 🤔😂

Well done on the dancersise, knitting, and Christmas budgeting and wrapping (I'm sure you could do a mean rap if you wanted to).

As you say re 'paydays' once you recalibrate you'll be fine, but would it be worth/possible to have your pensions going into an account that you can on an allocated day consider to be payday so you still have the feeling of 'this is my amount of earnings this month?'

Good luck with piecing it together.

On the pension pay dates can you see it as 2 pay days a month. Would that help?

  • I'm unsure whether we should technically be throwing PiP out as a North-of-the-river Londoner due to their keeness to travel south...

well done on all your activity too - especially the christmas preparedness. I am most definitely under-prepared, but also, right now, not really prepared to do too much about it either!

Crikey not sure where that leaves me as I’m tad bit further north!  With @EssexHebridean at the lack of Christmas motivation.
