TSB were baffled

This talk about cheque serial numbers is all very interesting but OP is being very conspicuous by his absence - perhaps he is embarrassed .
My theory is that he has mixed up his TSB and Santander accounts.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
What's the principal got to do with it?
:D:p
I hadn't previously realised that the validity of a cheque number is determined by what you have seen in cheque books, and by what Zanderman assumes. Sorry. Are you going to tell Santander that their cheque numbers are wrong, are should I?
Happy to be corrected about my assumptions.
But not sure there's a need to be arguing about it!
What would be useful would be a response from the OP - who hasn't contributed for a couple of days.
There's that key question of whether the Santander account has been debited or not, and whether the payee has been asked whether he has even presented the cheque.
The OP did say they were hoping for a TSB response today (17th) but, on such an odd query, I wouldn't be surprised if that isn't forthcoming.0 -
Our last cheque from our Santander account is 022086. I suspect we have written 86 cheques in the 10 years or so we've had the account. Perhaps OP mistyped and it was 022002? Not that that solves much in this case.0

Will this be a classic in the enormous line of "Threads started on the MSE Banking forum, doubted by almost everyone, OP never comes back, mild disappointment covers the thread like a gloomy soup"?0

Quite possibly. But hey, gloomy soup is better than no soup at all. And perfect for all this gloomy weather we're having.0 -

I suspect so - along the line of " I deposited a £1000 at the counter but the cashier only entered £100 - is they stole £900" or "tried to withdraw £100 from the ATM but it only dispensed £50" or "my account has been frozen - I've not done anything" or "..........."
In this case how will TSB tell the OP that he/she made a mistake?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
