Freeview box to replace Sky

  • I think there’s an equivelent Freesat box that uses the same lnb that allows similar features to sky q. Might be worth visiting richer sounds for some advice.

    Thanks. I'll look into this.

Don't waste your time as there is no such thing at the moment. All Freesat decoders use the old Sky+ LNB, not the Sky Q one.

I was hoping to use sat signal.

    Freeview uses Ariels

    Satellite uses Sat Dishes

As mentioned Humax are a well known brand of Freesat boxes.

Not for 'Freeview' you need an Aerial for that.....It's 'Freesat' through a dish.
If your dish won't work and you really want all the free channels, bite the bullet and have an aerial fitted.
It'll still be cheaper than Sky....

If Daisy wants Freeview she needs an aerial, and and Freeview or YouView PVR.

If she wants Freesat, she very likely needs the current Sky Q LNB (the bit at the middle of the satellite dish) replaced with a 'normal' one. A quad LNB costs <£20, and it's easy enough to fit, but often difficult to access. Then she can buy a Freesat or FreeTime PVR.

Or NowTV is via the internet, some stuff is free, but much will need a subscription. And NowTV is... Sky!

There's freesat from Sky, which presumably you could receive via your existing Q box, if you can persuade Sky to let you keep it.
Sky Q boxes are rented from Sky and have to be returned to Sky when and if Sky Q is cancelled.

Is it worth paying the penalty for the sky Q box, given that the Humira box has a similar cost.

Absolutely not. If you're not subscribing to Sky, you're not allowed to record on it! And you'll lose loads of channels. I take it you mean Humax box. You're not really 'paying to keep' a Sky Q box, you're paying a penalty for not returning it.

Chances are you have a hybrid LNB due to you not having Sky before your Q box, which means you could aquire a second hand Sky HD box relatively cheaply and run that for the free channels via the Sky network.
You can get these older boxes for about £10 at car boots or second hand shops, charity shops etc.

I will do that. I’ve removed my viewing card and found the channels left on there more than meet my viewing needs.

Hold your horses - I don't think we can just assume this unless I've missed something. I thought that when you get Sky Q installed, you get a 'Q' LNB, which is not compatible with Sky HD+ boxes (and therefore, Freesat ones). As I understand it, you only get a 'hybrid' LNB (with Sky Q AND Sky HD/Freesat outputs) if you specifically ask for it, because, for example, you have Freesat in the house.

I don't want Daisy to go and buy a Sky HD box and for it to be useless. Same applies to a Freesat box. Remember, for your Sky HD+ box, if you don't give them money every month, you can't record!
