Freeview box to replace Sky

I've decided to end my sky contract in order to reduce my monthly outgoings. Sky are taking back their Q box.

I want to get a Freeview box, but I'm using a satellite dish. I was wondering if there are freeview boxes that have ports that will receive satellite TV?

No, but there are freesat boxes, you will also likely need a LNB changed to the pre-Q standard (unless you had a hybrid fitted).

What's the LNB? How do I change it?

I didn't have any satellite previously. This is my first one.

There's freesat from Sky, which presumably you could receive via your existing Q box, if you can persuade Sky to let you keep it.

Does your TV not receive Freeview without a box?

No, as I don't have an aerial installed.

The guy on the phone said they are sending a package which I can use to return it back.

He didn't sound pleased that I didn't want to renew my contract

The LNB is the doohicky on the end of the arm pointing at the dish. Q uses a different one to the older HD+ boxes and Freesat boxes. They only cost around £10 but fitting it can be a problem.

Another option is if you have broadband and it's up for renewal? Sky do an Essentials deal where you get BB & a recordable HD+ box (no Sky subscription channels). Perhaps they would just enable the recording features on the Q box instead?

Actually I don't think I've seen that but it looks like it, £26 for ADSL, an anytime calls package and a recordable Sky+ box for 18 months (3-year price guarantee?). Might suit some people.

Edit: someone saw an advert for similar but with fibre in their local paper for £35 a month.

Where is your Freeview box going to get it's signal from?
