How on earth do we know this when it takes all night to count? Exit polls can be wildly out.

They're pretty close in my experience. Maybe 5-10 seats out but they are generally in the right place. Wake up tomorrow and I expect Tories to be between 350-370

Moved far enough for many one suspects. UK elections are won in the Middle Ground. A lesson that Corbyn should have learnt from the Foot debacle. Blair and Brown certainly did.
