Monzo dropped EU ATM charges at around that time, some reg change they said. Odd that this is gaining momentum after we decided to leave EU

I have been keeping my eye on the Virgin Current Account since December, hoping for a switch incentive. The latest Account Tariff document (dated 2 Dec) gave the impression that those charges would be dropped from 10 December. A Rates & Fees document dated 4 Feb then gave the impression the charges had in fact been dropped. So I wonder what's changing this week.

The changes in December were on certain currencies within the EEA. The changes this week seem to be rest of the world.
The tariff linked above (dated 4 Feb) seems to only reflect the changes that happened in Dec 2019.
*From the 10 December 2019, we will no longer charge this fee if the cash withdrawal is in pounds, Euros, Swedish Kronor or Romanian Lei and takes place in the European Economic Area (EEA).

Thanks, that sounds very interesting, and probably a better option than hanging on to an old Santander Zero account which was dependent on having certain other products or savings.0

Is there any downside to my OH and myself opening one each and using it as a savings account with £1000 permanently in it. We already have Virginmoney accounts so opening them won`t be too onerous and there are no fees. I know the rate is variable and it is probably not worth waiting for a switch bonus.
