Good laptop for no more than £200

Is this another thread that's going to keep on giving?0

BECAUSE very few people have pointed out that you can't have a good laptop for £200, no matter where you look. So I think that it should be emphasised that pretty much no laptop can be a 'decent laptop' at that price level.
Since OP seems to be relying maybe too much on opinions here, it should be made clear that whatever you buy, there's a good chance that you will be disappointed with the product because a £200 laptop is what it is. That is the budget, fair enough, but my suggestion would be 'wait a bit more and buy something better'.
The fact that YOU are using a 10 year old laptop and are happy with it is completely irrelevant.
But anyway, as you said, I should 'know better than arguing with you'.
Didn't bother to read what you wrote, since I know that it isn't relevant to the thread.
Will only repeat that everyone(even you) should understand it to mean "good for £200".
Whilst I paid £240(or less), anyone with even a modicum of intelligence should understand that £200 was not the original price.
Unfortunately, that appears to have escaped you, even though I made it clear earlier.
My latest £200 laptop has a second gen Ryzen 5 CPU, 8 GB of RAM, NVMe SSD, Full HD IPS etc
I don't need to it mine crypto-currency. The OP's mother does not either.0 -
Sorry, I cant see any reference to this when I click on the link. The seller has some bad feedback so its a risk.
My opinion of this thread hasn't changed.

The seller is fine. Their feedback is linked to their propensity to not accurately checking the specs before listing..
I think it best you find something for yourself. This has been an utter waste of my time. Thank you.0 -

Did see an I5-6XXX Dell on ebay for under £60, case was manky, and needed ssd + psu. It would definitely have out performed the non Ryzen AMDs mentioned in this post. There are others on ebay with duff screens, although screens are not cheap, it could have been a very cost effective repair for people with skills (the ability to loosen and tighten screws).
Over the last few years. there has been a drop in price on a few It items on Christmas eve, especially from Mail order/direct suppliers, so if he keeps an eye on hotukdeals and places like laptopsdirect he might be lucky?0 -

No, you get 15% off. I tried the PARTYTIME code in the paypal checkout and it says code expired. Shame as I was going to go for it.0 -

It certainly wasn't a waste of your time as I purchased the very laptop and got it for £212 which wasn't much over. Thanks for the advice and hope it serves her well. I did forget to check if it can pick up wifi but I am sure it can :T:T:T:T0 -
It depends on your definition of 'Good Laptop'. According to your spec, No! Something new, with no scratches or dents, with cashback and warranty, again No!0

This desktop that I am typing this on and which I use for work was bought new from Dell is exactly 12 years old. It was bought for £241.
It's a 2.2GHz C2D processor. It came with 2GB of RAM, now upgraded to 4GB. I stuck in a 256GB SSD.
It came with Win XP, now upgraded to Win10. I've gone through a couple of keyboards and mice over that period.
What is more, I built an i7 system in 2015, and I've never quite got round to transferring onto it. This old system just keeps on working adequately.Trigger claims that he's had his road sweeper's broom for 20 years. But then he adds that the broom has had 17 new heads and 14 new handles.
"How can it be the same bloody broom then?" asks Sid thecaf!owner. Trigger produces a picture of him and his broom and asks: "what more proof do you need?"
