What a ridiculous kerfuffle. It's about £60 a year for a Royal Mail redirection, and if a landlord can't contact 99% of companies to correct his address in a year, then he isn't trying. In fact you've made it clear he's committing fraud. This guy's a tax thief and a cheat.

Just write "not at this address" and put them back in the post box. It isn't your problem and it shouldn't be, and you're not obligated to be his personal secretary. Besides, you're moving soon. He's not even going to notice that no mail's coming to his sister for a month or two.

AIUI you can only do a Royal Mail redirect for 2 years so if he's been out of the property for longer than that, he may have done a redirect that's run out.

We live in a private rented flat for now, our landlord lives abroad but is still using our address as his own, he says medical bills are too expensive and he brings his children here to the doctor and dentist he asked me to lie to yhe doctor surgery to say we all live in the same house, he still gets all his mail to our house tax bills, bank letters etc and asks me to take them to his sisters house who stays round from us, is this legal what hes doing were hopefully moving out soon b and i dont want to be doing anything i can get in trouble for
This is actually a pretty stupid thing to do, given that there is only a suspicion that the landlord is up to no good.
Redirection is expensive and cannot be continued indefinitely.

There is no suspicion, the LL is 100% up to no good. From the NHS website:
If you're moving abroad on a permanent basis, you'll no longer automatically be entitled to medical treatment under normal NHS rules. This is because the NHS is a residence-based healthcare system. You'll have to notify your GP practice so you and your family can be removed from the NHS register.

The fact that he's not just changed his address with the bank (which is free and can be done in minutes on any banking app) to his sisters address is also a good indicator that he does not have a buy-to-let mortgage and is chancing it.

You are still making assumptions. I "moved abroad" to look after my elderly parents - no reason to change address as I might return at any time.
When I asked the building society about letting the house, they sent me a letter saying that I could not do so. When I rang them up to discuss the letter their response was that they had to send the letter but nobody would bother if I ignored it.

I don’t think you are eligible for free NHS treatment unless resident.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

He says he lives abroad with his children and brings them back to the UK for free NHS treatment cause it's too expensive in Spain. That's fraud, no question. He should be paying the NHS a fee if he wishes to use their services as a non-resident.

He's rented his property out so he has no plans to return anytime soon unless he plans on evicting sitting tenants at short notice, which I don't think is a quick process either. If he returns at any time, he can re-register himself and his children with the NHS as and when.

Renting without a "consent to let" can result in the bank or building society demanding instant repayment of your whole mortgage as you are breaching the terms of your original residential mortgage. I'd assume that the letter you received is your building societies official stance on the matter and whether or not you get checked is a risk you're taking, albeit a minor one if the person on the phone is correct and the status quo doesn't change. But who's to say the standard one year stays the same the next.

As the LL is asking his tenant to lie to avoid medical bills / dental fees and not updating his address with the bank, he's also trying to avoid higher rates on the buy-to let mortgage as well. Everything we've heard about the LL is shady and we have no reason to think otherwise

    Agree with GM on this.
If someone is getting benefits they are not entitled to the cost is borne by taxpayers.
I am a taxpayer so I am paying for this.
If you think you are NOT a taxpayer, remember a lot of good and services have tax, VAT which for those who may not know is Value Added TAX!
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

You are very eager to defend the (let’s be honest almost certainly fraudulent) landlord...
