    How green are EVs ?
Really not very green at all
When you take into account their manufacture, running via Electricity generated via non renewable power and eventual disposal of the Li-ion battery……
Before anyone says “But I use RENEWABLE power” – NO YOU DON’T – You may pay for renewable – but only 15% of UK power is renewable and you get exactly the same electricity from exactly the same sources as everyone else !

Would I be wrong in stating that conventional cars are greener than EV’s

We may be at around 15% renewables, but nuclear is also low CO2 and produces no nasty particulates or NOx emissions.

EVs require fewer consumables over their lifetime - no engine or gearbox oil, no clutches and clutch fluid. The brakes often last longer as well.

The batteries can be re-used or recycled, just like the rest of the car.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Also people fail to take into account the amount of electricity needed to refine the fuel for ICE, so a double hit.

And I thought we were closer to 25-30% renewable now?

How is the range of Electric cars affected by continual use of aircon and heaters ?
    It is reduced, a bit.

A bigger issue in my opinion is the exaggerated range that the official tests produce. I bought a Tesla P100D this year assuming that I’d get close to 300 miles per charge if I was taking it easy but the best I ever managed was 200, and if I needed any margin of error that was dropped to 180 miles, which is just not enough for me.

I'm sorry but this is utter tripe.

Are not internal combustion engined vehicles manufactured?

By paying for renewable energy, at least somebody gets it and it may be me. I get at least a quarter of my electric miles from my own solar system

As to the disposal of the battery:- Once they are unfit for vehicle use, they go on to be used for home electricity storage. Once they are unfit for that they are recycled.

You forgot to mention "Cobalt is poisonous" and it's disgusting to use it in the batteries. The largest user of Cobalt is the the petrochemical industry and this is used only once. Less than 10% goes to vehicle batteries and that is recycled.

In your own words, "utter tripe".

Cobalt is used as a catalyst in desulpherisation of hydrocarbons, but it's not depleted during the process. It comes under that 10% "other", rather than the 62% LiIon battery production forecast for this year.

Yes, electric vehicles really are better than fossil fuel burners https://buff.ly/33kLXK0

Renewables use only fraction of minerals used for fossil fuel generation https://buff.ly/36fqXqU

You didn't address the long term use or renewable aspect. Further, hat Cobalt is being used less in vehicle batteries and will hopefully be eradicated completely quite soon.
