Electric cars question

^Justifying an EV based on pure £ savings versus a old car is impossible, much in the same way a brand new combustion car would be very expensive compared to your current Skoda.
However a bit of man maths, family agreement to want a newer/nicer car, and the numbers stack up OK.
Compared to a brand new Audi SQ7 which us just as quick and offer the same amount of space as our EV at the 2.5 year mark the EV is coming out about £20k 'cheaper' all in, including depreciation costs. By the time the EV is 8 years old that difference will be massive, and the more we drive our EV the more the cost difference.
So the maths says buy a nice EV you enjoy driving, and the more you use it the more money you 'save'.

What do you do when you finish your 200mile journey? Presumably your stopped for a fair few hours? If there were charging facilities, you could charge and have a full battery to complete the return journey.
Hyundai Kona has a 64kWh battery, so with an efficiency of 3.5mile/kWh on winter and 4.5mile/kWh in the summer you could easily get between 220 and 280miles all year round.0 -

We stayed in a hotel without any charging facilities
The Kona costs £35k !
OK They look promising but are way too expensive to even consider at the moment0 -
No - just maintaining my privacy - whats it got to do with you where I live ?
No, that's a perfectly reasonable view. But people have been trying to help and I suspect the experienced EVers would be able to illustrate how you might do that route.
Now I'm with you on the current expense of EVs, and that's speaking as someone who has never paid more than £/€4000 for a car and found them all capable of doing UK to Italy no problem. These days it's the driver who needs to stop before the car!
But your attitude does seem to be one of coming up with objections. Fair enough, steer clear of them until the situation changes.
For my part I'm keeping an eye on the second hand market which is still far too expensive, but should improve with the release next year of more attractive models. A S/H Leaf or non-lease Zoe should do me when the prices come down...0 -
Technology and prices still not good enough to tempt me yet.....I'm still a diesel convert.0

Maybe I could be tempted with a Hybrid ?
The problem is that I would like a Torque Converter gearbox and this combination is as rare as hens teeth !
OK thinking again - most hybrids are manual on the ic engine - so how does this work when powered by an electric motor ?0 -
