I do include pension contributions both mine and my employers as I see it as money being paid into my savings pot. However, I don't include investment gains or losses.10lb to lose & keep off in 20204.5lb/10lb:rotfl:0 -

I think the answer is: count what's relevant to you and works towards the goals you want!
I don't count pensions - even contributions from my net pay into my personal sipp - at the minute because really I'm saving for a house and the pension is useless for that. And because I'm too lazy to think about the ups and downs of the market.Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056
Current mortgage amount: £226,957.97

I include in my amount on this thread;
*money paid into Cash ISAs during the year (minus anything taken out to pay for big things)
*money paid into S&S ISAs during the year (but not market ups & downs)
*interest on existing savings (as it says in the rules on page 1)
*money paid into my pension AVC, as this is at my discretion
*but not employee or employer contributions to the work pension scheme
*and not market ups and downs in property owned.
Having said all that, I definitely do monitor the market value of everything each month..,I want to see how close I'm getting to FIRE - only 3 months to go now!Save 12k in 2013-2014-2015-2016-2017-2018-2019-2020-2021-2022 - then early-retired.0 -
Hi
Can I join please. I’d like to aim for £5k in a neglected savings acc. I’m trying to bring my mortgage down by overpaying so it’s a tricky balance. ThanksOn a mission!

I was wondering about pension contributions. Personally I am going to count them, as although I won't see the money, it's still being saved, it just means I don't have to remember to do the bank transfer come payday
I'm going to be paying into an S&S ISA so won't count market fluctuations. I need to learn about Tilly Tidying, sounds like a good idea. I already have Save the Change on my Lloyds account going into an Easy Saver, so will keep that up too.
