  • Compost bought and seeds acquired! 🙌 tomorrow I will sow quite a few of them and hope that they will have germinated by the time the beds are ready 😉
I've been really struggling with motivation recently in all aspects of my life - mainly it's due to not seeing my grandbaby- but know that I really have to get it together and make the most of every day. I've decided that I am going to make sure that I do at least one thing a day on myself, my house, my garden and my work (I have several big work projects that I have let slide a bit so need to buckle down! 🙈) To this end, I'm going to make a list for all of them and schedule time in my day to complete them - no more bone idle squirrelgirl!! 😉
  • Fab day today 🙌 gardeners have cleared the ground  (lovely lads and worked their socks off!! ) seeds started and a vast amount of happiness all round!!! 😁 lads are back Monday to lay the groundwork for the veggie beds then build them - hopefully by this time next week all will be fully functional and awaiting planting!!!
Life is pretty damn good at the moment- still crushed about not seeing my grandbaby but that's out of my hands so I just need to be happy with the fact that he is well and I'm lucky enough to be able to videochat with him daily and play virtual choo choos  😍
Got to say that this lockdown is really making me appreciate what I have - 26 years ago  today, I lost one of my best friends (who was only 27 years old) to a malignant brain tumour - one of the last things he said to me two days before he passed was that every time I was feeling crap about my life, I should remember all those people who would give anything to be in my position - crap or not - I'm alive, loved and get to see the sunrise.....wisest words that have ever been spoken to me and they resonate greatly at the moment and worth sharing......

  • The seeds are sprouting!! 🙌 The lads have built the veg beds and are back tomorrow to finish off the area and fill the beds with compost 😁 It's all very exciting (despite the eye-watering expense 🙈) and a real investment- they will provide enough fresh veg for us to munch throughout the year, save me money on fresh flowers and will give us a new hobby 😉
I'm on leave from work now for a week- I was meant to be having my grandbaby but obviously that's no longer possible so I'll just spend the week pottering and admiring my new plants 😂
Our UK holiday is definitely off now and with some of the info coming out today it looks less and less likely that our big holiday later in the year will happen - although I'm really disappointed, I've got other things I can do with the cash - I'm not going to postpone it to a later date with the company as I want to wait until things are sorted before we travel thousands of miles, even if that means waiting a couple of years from now.
I'm just hoping we get a decent summer so that we can spend plenty of time in the garden!
  • We have just built some raised beds in our garden Squurrelgirl and I want to install a mud kitchen for my little helpers. You should have a look for your grand baby, they'll have hours of fun whilst your potter with your veg/flowers x

  • Good idea bargainhunter! 😁 Not sure I'll have the room now though 🤔
I've just had a call from the gardener- the compost won't be available until tomorrow or Friday unfortunately so no direct planting until the weekend...
Tomato seeds have started to come through now which I'm extremely pleased about - I may buy a couple of plants though so that it extends the season 😁
  • I've ordered a new compost bin! 🙌 expensive initial outlay but should be worth every penny - I will be able to cancel my garden bin next year so will recoup money on that and also will save a fortune on compost - it also means that my desire to grow my stuff veganically will be a lot easier! 😉
I've decided to have a total slob day today - I've got no gardeners coming until Friday, the house is clean, laundry up to date and food is cooked so I literally have nothing to do! I'm going to spend time browsing veg garden stuff on the Internet- I may see if I can find some gardening programmes on the tv too - and basically be really lazy! 😁
Tomorrow when the gardeners come back I'll do some painting - I have 2 canvases on the go at the moment - then some seeds sowing- got to love holidays!! I'd much prefer to be with my grandbaby but this is a reasonable alternative 😉

Your garden plan sounds great. A secure food source in these crazy times is priceless. Enjoy :)

  • Thanks dia! 😁 veggie growing again has been on the cards for a long time now but it's taken the pandemic to spur me into action - partly due to the possibility of shortages but mainly because my holiday cancellation has freed up the cash I was planning on spending 😉
I'd like to think that we can grow enough to keep our 3 households (as it will be now that ds&dil can re-start the house buying process again now) pretty much stocked on the veg front - it's not going to help with fruit but I'll do what I can strawberry wise! 😉
This weekend will be hopefully spent in the garden - we have some tidying up to do and I'm hoping to replant a couple of the trees and shrubs that we pulled out to make way for the raised beds before they die! 🙈 fingers crossed it's not too late!
  • Compost not arriving until Monday now! 🙈 not overly impressed but not a lot we can do 😔 I was really looking forward to getting the seeds in this weekend but we'll just do the tidy up instead so that it looks better when it's finally sorted 😉
I cleaned out the greenhouse today and one of my flower beds so at least it's moving in the right direction! I've decided to go to the garden centre tomorrow to see if I can pick up some strawberry and tomato plants - if they're out of stock, we'll drive to some of the local places that sell off their excess plants in the hope that they will have some...
I did a bit more painting today - the canvases are coming on well and if the weather is calm and dry this weekend, I'll do another one (it's a spray paint one so needs to be done in the garden) - it will give me something to do while I get one of the lads to do some digging! 😉😂
