FrankieM said:Hi all
My 2020 plans have gone flying out the window and come to a complete halt.
My dad suddenly passed away at the end of January and I've had to leave the UK for the foreseeable future while I sort things out with/for my mum.
I'm on extended leave at work but after February's payday, I'll be running basic household bills from my savings and then from the credit card if required.
Not what I'd planned for myself at all
Hi, I'm so sorry to hear this xxx

Last week I went to Aldee to do most of my food shop that will last for quite a few weeks. Did quite a bit and am happy with the cost. Went to an event in the evening at a shop where they sell creams, shampoo etc. Did spend £36.05 after 30% discount, but did get freebies worth £27.50. I will use them and some will last me a while. Also got £5 added onto my loyalty card. Was a treat as I finally closed a chapter regarding a health issue that has been going on for quite a while - am on medication that seems to be working finally. Managed to get a free float in a floatation tank work £40 for the off peak weekday and is valid for a year. Started the mental health 12 week programme this week. The CBT starts on Monday. Did a few other activities last week. Have been bringing my own food and drinks to the programme. Will not be going on the guided walk in London tomorrow due to the weather, so will now save £10 and gain an NSD. Have to go on a training course this Thursday for the temp work I want to get into.Frugal Living Challenge 2025 Mortgage free as of 1st August 20137

My heartfelt condolences, Frankie. It's a dreadful shock to the system. Take care of yourself as well as your Mum.
On the Frugal February front things are progressing, even if at glacial speed! DP is retiring v soon and has got the first flutterings of frugality, hurrah! To almost quote Mary Poppins, if you make a task a game ... spoonful of sugar idea. That's often how I view frugality, it's consumer revenge as Martin put it!😁 All the same though I've taken a required trip to the Big Smoke I used my Railcard, 1/3rd off a SuperSaver return, my British Museum pass - free access to virtually all exhibitions plus free use of Members' cloakroom and Members area, nice restaurant but not v cheap, plus you can just use it to sit and study/relax/rest your feet!, plus 10% off any purchases from BM (not food outlets or Member's Bar!) - so I bought 3 things for friends and saved money there, 2 Christmas presents in the sale (10% off those too) & walked almost everywhere instead of taking the Tube. I haven't made a proft on the day but I've still saved a fair bit, so it could have been a lot worse!😁🤣If you see me on here - shout at me to get off and go and get something useful done!!11 -
Messed up my budget, not sure how on earth I managed it but I’m a week short on electric and bus fare. It’s okay, not a problem as such as I can rob Peter to pay Paul so to speak as I get my other wage in on Friday. It’s just most of my bills come out on Tuesday, and the rest the end of the month. I’ll rest myself in 3 weeks.Going to completely rejig my budget from scratch and do it week by week rather than month by month. Sigh. I did gain some salmon that was given to me, from marks and Spencer’s. Yum!Life happens, live it well.10

Sorry to hear about your dad, Frankie. Hope all goes well for you and your mum.
Still being frugal here. Using up food from freezers and fridge, but found some chickens and chicken thighs in Aldi at 30% off, on friday. Freezer now full again!
Also frugally glued a rolling pin the little ones were using for playdoh. The same one their mum and her siblings have been using for around 35 years. Not a lot gets thrown away here.
Have made an extra £46 this weekend. Found a link to MrQ bingo in the referers thread. No deposit, fee bingo and spins, all withdrawable.
The barn roof has just about held in the winds, hope they are over now.
Hope you are all having a good weekend, Mumtoomany.Frugal Living Challenge 2025.9
