Happy New Year everyone!!!
May the frugalling continue.
Today will be a frugal day for me, The Xmas tree is being dismantled and any unwanted decs will be put to one side to go to the CS shop, and then I will start with sorting one kitchen cupboard a day until they are done and so on. My dinner is LO's from yesterday and a menu plan of sorts has been done. I will also venture out for a walk later on as the sun is shining but its cold out there. Anyway better make a start.

My first frugal challenge of the year has arrived
I went out to the shed looking for my tape measure and while I knew my shed was a little worse for wear, it seems that it's now in a very sad state.
Everything in it is mouldy
I'm going to move things out that will be damaged but most of it will have to stay in there for now.
Time to get my budget working for me and get the savings growing so that I can eventually replace it.
Nannyg I've spent the last few days going through drawers and cupboards though out the house and getting rid of items no longer used or needed. It must be that time of the year.1 -
Happy New Year everyone. My challenge starts today and, like most, the aims are to cut right back to the necessities and make the most of what we already have. No plans to spend anything today - we may go out for a bit if the weather holds but mainly today is about getting the decorations put away and getting the house in order for the year ahead.
In terms of making a little extra I’d like to do a bit more crafting. I made some dragon gloves for a couple of hampers for Christmas and got asked to make 3 more pairs so that’s something I’m looking into. I’ve also got in touch with a friend and my sister in law about doing a skills swap next year (I make something that she can gift but not make, and vice verse).
If I’m right with my shopping list I’ll only need about £3.50 on this week’s shop on a few fresh bits. We’ve still got lots in from where I stocked up (not FOR Christmas but so I wouldn’t have to go in massively busy supermarkets :rotfl: ) Going to have the last special item bought for celebrations though - a single lamb shank which will do us both with roasties, veg and some minty gravy.
Hope everyone has a lovely and restful day and is ready for the year ahead.Trying for daily wins, and a little security in an insecure world.2 -
Morning all and Happy New Year!
I am feeling a little hungover (prosecco gives me indigestion) and ready for dry January. Like many others I am planning to loose some weight in 2020 and not drinking alcohol should help with that as well as the budget. My plan is no alcohol in Jan and no buying alcohol for home (I have 2 bottles of wine and 3/4 bottle of raspberry vodka left) during Feb and March. Will see how I feel then but my overall goal for the rest of 2020 is to make sure I drink within the recommended guidelines and have at least 3 days a week off. This will result in a big saving money wise over the course of the year and have health benefits too, a win win.
My spreadsheets are ready and I am going to check my bank shortly to see what my balance is so I know what I have going forward. On the bottom of the Jan sheet I have estimated my Jan spends for the month. I have paid off my credit card balance in full (from savings pots) and go into 2020 with a zero balance (although with nothing now set aside for car maintenance, hair, clothes etc. My mot is due this month and I will be able to pay this from this months salary assuming no/not to much work is needed. I have a £250 balance with a store on 0%. I will pay this off from salary in Feb/March (I have until June). I am not going to spend on my credit card.
My budget for food for Jan is £170. I will try for less but this is around half what I have been spending with alcohol and pet food (no alcohol spend in Jan though and I have enough canned food for the month). I am now budgeting for these separately. I have well stocked food cupboards. I will buy no clothes, books, toiletries etc in Jan. I had a food delivery yesterday but haven’t set foot in a shop since Christmas eve.
I am relaxing this morning (cuddles with the dog are a great way to start the new year), then later having a general tidy up and batch cooking some meals.

Happy new year everyone,
May I please join you in a frugal year? I have just set up my mse account so a little bit new to the layout etc but I'm sure I can figure it out!In 2019 I have managed to clear over £7000 of debt but have another £450 to go! I would then like to build up an emergency fund but have no idea how much I should put in it. Any advice would be gratefully received.
Best wishes

I decided I am also going to make a note of when I save by breaking a habit..... for example today I went to get my rent out of the ATM, and I would always pop in to the cafe next to it for a brunch - normally spending £9. Today I went after I'd eaten and walked away. So, £9 not spent

I'm planning to do the same, resisting things like coffees, snacks and takeaways is a lot more satisfying when you can see how much its saved you :T#84 Make £2020 in 2020 challenge

PurpleJay my journey is the same as yours ! Had a lovely party month but feel I need to dry up , save the dosh and shed the weight !!
Tonight will be a very plain pasta with tomato sauce ! Got visitors tomorrow but am going to be strong and stick to my lists and plans !!
My monthly food budget is £100. Have loads of our own meat in the freezer and am determined not to be seduced by supermarkets !! Lists, lists and more lists are the answer for me.
So glad to be with like minded souls. XxJourney on the Frugal Wagon to Self Reliance.

Happy New Year all.
sams247 I like that idea of noting what savings have been made by breaking habits . I'm going to give that a go!
Todays been a day at home sorting cupboards, drawers etc
Found some books we no longer need/want so will take these to the charity shop.
A very old mobile that I was surprised music magpie would offer anything for... was just planning on recycling it but hopefully we'll get about £7 back,
Continuing to eat from our stores, we very rarely waste any food and often have a weekend of random use it up type meals.
I too, have lots of weight to lose and really need to get this going in the right direction.
Spreadsheets up and running. I do like a new spreadsheet!
Looking forward to following the thread through the year.Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.
