  • I’m waiting for my washing to finish so I thought I’d jump on! The girls had a free trial at a dance/drama/theatre group this morning and they both loved it. Sadly it’s not cheap, so will speak to their dad when I drop them off tomorrow morning and see what he thinks. DD1 is more expensive as she’s older. It may be that she has to miss out, as she already goes to a couple of clubs, whereas DD2 doesn’t. But not signing her up doesn’t sit right with me :( She really enjoyed it. And I know it will really improve her confidence.

Today has been a low-spend day. We went to Costa for a latte & 2 babycinos, so only £3-£4 spent. A nice little cheap treat :)

I’m wondering if it’s wise to use some of my savings to pay a chunk off the loan. It would increase the amount I’d be able to borrow if I was to sell my flat & buy a house, as my repayments would decrease. I had another rubbish night’s sleep last night because of the noise. I just wish the landlords around here rented to people who liked to go to bed at a decent time so that we could all get enough sleep...
  • Sunday night already! Why do the weekends go so quickly?!

I spoke to the girls’ dad about the drama group and he said he wants to think about it before we sign them up. I don’t blame him, it is a lot of money, however I’ve since learnt that it’s term-time only, which means that we’d pay £47.50 a month each if both girls joined. I don’t think that’s too bad, but we’ll see!

Today I met my friend’s new baby. She was born just before xmas, and she’s so adorable. We had some lovely cuddles! I then met up with OH who treated us to a yummy carvery, which is just what I needed to lift my mood. Bless him, he is a great support when things get rubbish. He’s changing his gas & electricity supplier so I sent him my friend referral link, so I should get £50 credit on my account at the end of the month :)

Not much else to report. The girls go back to school tomorrow, & I think they’re going to really struggle with the early alarm clock! Poor things. DD1 lost another tooth last night (that’s 5 she’s lost in less than 6 months!!!) so I had to find a pound coin to put under her pillow :rotfl: then she lost it this morning! But luckily I’ve since found it
  • The girls survived their first day back at school :) and I just about survived work. I had a chat with my manager about the crazy workload that doesn’t seem to be improving, and he has taken a chunk off me so I can attempt to catch up. It’s only a temporary solution, but I’ll take it for now! It’ll be nice to be able to breathe a little.

Money news: today was a NSD, my child benefit has been paid in, and I have a whopping £2.97 payable on Top Cashback :D
  • Sorry things feel so crappy with work and home at the moment, but good that you at least have a temporary solution. If the noise level is consistently loud, especially at unreasonable times you could put a noise complaint in. Again, not ideal, but might quieten them down for a bit.

Your OH sounds like a sweetie. Shame it's not the right time for you two to move in together.
  • Thanks Franalamadingdong :) He is a sweetie yeh, and is helping where he can. For example, he’s a bit of a wizard on Microsoft Excel, whereas I only know the basics, so he’s going to help me better my skills so that when I decide to start job hunting properly I can also apply for roles that need strong Excel skills :) bless him.

Another NSD today! And all of those clothes that I returned last week have now been refunded. I collected a dress after work that I’d ordered from Very - it’s for the ruby wedding anniversary party at the end of the month. Hopefully it fits! I ordered a size bigger than what I am because the description advised to do so. I’ll try it on when the girls have gone to bed & it’s less hectic.

Work was still as busy as ever, even with the reduced workload. I don’t know why they don’t recruit a 2nd person, it’s obvious we need it!

The girls will be going to the drama/dance group as their dad has agreed that they can go. Now to remortgage the flat to pay for it :rotfl:
  • Great news about the girls'club.

Hope the dress is what you're looking for.

Love that your OH is helping you with that. Mine taught me how to repair veneer and I've asked him to help show me how to remove and replace the sealant round the bath and I help him by doing some typing for him. I work in admin and he teaches carpentry and multi skills so we work quite nicely together. It's lovely to share skills.

    Thank you Mum_and_Wife :)
That’s true Fran! As for the dress, it was too big! So I’m returning it & will try & find something else (I’ve since seen pictures of the venue & it’s quite casual, so on reflection it was probably too laa-de-daaa for it!).

Anyway, my current financial situation is as follows:

    Low-interest loan: £7,398.26
    Family loan: £7,000.00
    Mortgage: £83,249.53 (about £29K equity)
    Emergency fund: £5,000.00

I got my nails done last night. All budgeted for, and worth every penny :D I do love fresh nails. Cheered me up after a rubbish day :)

A couple of weeks ago I ordered a top & a blouse from a popular high street shop after returning a load of clothes bought with my Christmas money. The top was too short but also stunk of cigarettes, which is a bit concerning! The blouse despite being a size smaller than what I usually am was a bit baggy. There is no way that I’m a size 8! So both items will be returned :( Still yet to find a suitable outfit for this anniversary do. I wish that I already had something suitable! I might ask some friends if they’ve got anything I can borrow ;)

DD1 had her first swimming lesson tonight since breaking up for xmas. DD2 refuses to go as she’s scared of going under the water so we are trying to convince her that she won’t go under if she doesn’t want to. I really want her to start learning soon but I don’t want to push her! Hopefully soon she will change her mind.

Not feeling 100% tonight so I’m going to get an early night x
  • That's great news re the job!

I think borrowing a n outfit is a fab idea if you can't find anything suitable.

My son took forever to convince to take swimming lessons, but now he's great. She'll get there.
