Holiday Building works

We have been notified that our Tui holiday package hotel is going to have building works during our stay. This is possibly the last holiday we will ever have abroad due to my husband’ s age and Ill health and having great difficulty in getting suitable travel insurance. I have also had to to go to great trouble to organise oxygen at the hotel in Tenerife through the Spanish Health Authority. Not sure what is the best thing to do? Don’t want to cancel but don’t want to be sitting by the pool with drills and dust etc. What rights do we have? Can anyone help?

Have you checked what type of works are being carried out and the scale of them? It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Has TUI said what the building works are going to be so you can assess how much impact it would have on you?
Would it be an issue for you if the 'building works' consisted of digging up the tennis court at the back of the hotel? Or something similar...
However, if they were closing 3 of the 5 restaurants or renewing the only lift (for example), it would be a big problem for you.
Have you looked on Tripadvisor to see if there are any comments on the reviews?
Have TUI explained what your options are?0 -
Perhaps post the name of the hotel and someone who knows the hotel and has visited recently can offer assurances.
Also check recent reviews on Trip Advisor.
One of our best holidays ever was when there was building work at a hotel we went to in Jamaica. The hotel and staff over compensated for the ongoing work and the hotel was probably only 25% occupied so we had the best pool spots, no queues for activities and excellent service in all restaurants.0 -
Agree with checking Tripadvisor.
Often building works can be ones that you barely see or hear, others can be in front of you all the time. Really depends on what the building works actually areI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

Jesus, talk about going into a panic for no reason.
I had a similar email 2 weeks before going to Malta to get married. All it seemed to consist of was a crane next door which we saw swing around during the day from the rooftop pool....and that was it.0 -

You got away lightly. Malta is full of roadworks, diversions, construction work, packed out public buses, and a fairly boring cuisine.0 -
Yes, you have told me all that before. And yet I still went back 2 years later, so draw your own conclusions.0

400,000 vehicles on an island the same size as the Isle of Wight [approx 17 x 9 miles]. There's a website called Malta - current roadworks....have a look.0 -
