  • Hi (no. 49) - thanks for adding me! Just starting - £4 in - if I can find a tin lol! :)
I bought one of those ones you need a tin opener to get into today. 79p and does the job. It says I'm saving for a unicorn on it :rotfl:Scotland's national animal! :D Pringles tubes are good too if you're not tempted to dip in.

I feel your pain. My mother also collects £2 coins.

What you need to do is make sure you are around when she plans to cash them in. My mum collects them to buy her holiday spending money, so when the time comes I offer to swap them up into notes so that she doesn't have to carry such a heavy load to the bank. How kind I am thinking of my mother's welfare and saving her the trouble of going to the bank.

Thank you Gem-gem, I can see why you're the leader of the challenge! I'll have to step in for my beloved mother - wouldn't want her sustaining injuries getting to the bank now, would I!?

Had my own little win today courtesy of the bus driver not having any £5 notes (what a result!) Am now the proud owner of 3 more plain £2 coins and will pop them safely in my tin as soon as I get home!

I'm in the same quandary wanting to break notes to get £2 coins but not wanting to spend money, but I do love it when you have an essential spend and it brings bonus coins! Although evidently I'm now also competing with my Nanna for the 2-pounders! So between us we will definitely be rinsing the local population!

#39 signing off with a new total of £26! :D xxx

If you swap with people at work you don't have to spend anything.

I haven't done this but if you have a small essential spend eg buy some fruit on a stall in the high street you could always pop into the bank split a £10 note eg 4 x £2 coins and then 2 x £1 coin then pay for the fruit with the two one pound coins, then you are doing the veg stall a favour by not taking all their change. How considerate we are! :D

Oooooh, I like that, but does the bank then get mad at me for taking all their change!?

Oh funfairprincess, where did you find a sealed tin for 79p!? I had some beautiful tins with rainbows and unicorns but I've always paid a solid £1!

I'll stop talking now, sorry! xxx

I got mine from poundstretcher. It depends on the design some were £1 and some were 79p. I wasn't much bothered what it looked like as long as it holds the money:rotfl:
