??? It's designed to stick to skin! The stuff you get in the chemist, not sellotape.;)How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -

Medical tape doesn't stick to well to ears either, it needs a flat surface. It's why hospitals bandage around the whole head if they have to do something to the ear. A soft headband might do it though.

Try a white noise machine and ear plugs in the short term while you work to sort in out longer term ..0

There is a white noise app for iPhones / iPads ( not sure about pc)
Ambi science . Has other noise effects as well ..0 -
I feel for you. I had a noise issue with a neighbour and had to go for silicone earplugs, over ear headphones, and a white noise machine on constantly to not go irreversibly mad. Would recommend that combo. I approached the council and they were really helpful, and I ended up finding out the nuisance person was a tenant. They were evicted. I guess your neighbour owns the house but I was really heartened by how seriously the council took my noise complaint (mine was music related). Best of luck!0

You're all really great, thank you so much (and thank you for letting me moan). I don't have too much of a problem getting to sleep (unless their TV's loud, which is about 3 times a week) I need to try something. Sleepphones did look pretty good. I'm going on holiday next week so will order one as soon as I get back and hook it up to the iPad (long lasting battery).0

"I'm trying to think of a 'nicer' way to sort it first. They have their TV on in the bedroom until 4am, some nights I can hear every word of the TV programme"
Why be nice when they aren't? My friend had the solution to a neighbour's barking dog. She bought a whistle and when the dog started to bark she blew her whistle - just once, short sharp and very loud. The dog stopped barking. Then started again. She blew the whistle again, just a bit louder. The dog stopped barking. And hasn't been a nuisance barker since. But if it does start barking again, she'll be blowing that whistle again. Louder. You could try that. But those horrible neighbours do need reporting to the environmental services (usually council). Their actions, or lack thereof, are ruining your enjoyment of your own home. It has to stop. Good luck! And please do try the whistle treatment. If your neighbours complain, you have to tell them they can go whistle!!Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Is it worth inviting the wife around for a chat? There really is loads she can do..yes both humans training is best but she can make steps. But again it's if she wants to and can stand her ground.
Perhaps the local dog warden can help with advice? I've no idea on this only ever called them when I found a stray years ago.
Is there a neghbour on the other side or are you in a semi-detached. Just wondering if others experienced issue and you could join forces.
Bottom line is you shouldn't have to put up with this.0 -
I'm trying to be nice and reasonable because there's usually one thing after another with them, and I don't know if the next thing will be worse. They fly tip rubbish, he used to sit in the garden and play the same songs on full blast night after night (he used to do this in the house too but he's stopped now). He used to leave his van engine running for 30 mins in the morning while he went inside, I have sash windows, I can hear everything and they aren't odour proof so I'd get the lovely scent of exhaust fumes flooding my house. I told his wife it was illegal to do this and he swapped the van. They seem to think they lived in a detached. I'm quiet, as is my big kid, maybe that's the problem. They can't hear us so don't get that we can hear every time they stomp around, every argument, every time the dog barks, every time the TV's on loudly. His wife's just given up, I've tried explaining the issues to her before, she apologises and tries to speak to her husband, but he's a w***er who does what he wants, she's depressed and I think he's controlling and treats her like a skivvy. I'm in a terrace, the other neighbour's fine, I rarely hear them. I try to be careful what I'm doing in case it disturbs the quiet side. I'll look into a whistle, there may be one that just the dog can hear.
The ear plugs. Not good. They must have made my ears feel icky during the night so I took them out. I was woken by the dog at 8 (went to bed at 3). I put them back in and could still hear it a little but managed to get back to sleep. My ears still feel icky though. I'll order some sleephones when I get back off holiday.0
