OK, so it seems Tesla has taken the title of most sold BEV from Nissan, or at least in theory till it becomes official?
Tesla Passes 1 Million EV Milestone & Model 3 Becomes All Time Best Seller
Add this to the growing list of European countries, especially those with big markets like Germany, France, UK etc that for PEV sales are closing in on that beautiful 8% figure Tony Seba says is the start of the steep 'S' curve in disruptions, and we may see this 'quick' transition getting faster and faster.Mart. Was about to warn Mart about turtle mode, until i read your post, and went back and read Marts again.
Wife managed to kill the leaf a month or so ago, approx 200 yards from a charger she was planning to use.
I said to her, what was the charge at when you left the house?? Her reply, "no idea", that will be how it ran out of battery then!West central Scotland

Not exactly BEV news, more anti anti-EV news.
The Diesel Brothers who've helped to promote 'rolling coal' (targets EV's with exhaust pipe smoke clouds) have been hit with $2m in fines and costs for tampering with diesel emissions systems on pick ups they sell/modify.Diesel Brothers Tampered With Truck Emissions Systems, Fined $851,000
The Diesel Brothers are the star of a show on the Discovery Channel. But part of that is they produce and sell modified diesel pickup trucks that polluted the environment in Utah. In a court ruling, U.S. District Court Judge Robert Shelby found that all of those involved with the television program were guilty of violating the Clean Air Act and Utah State Law.
In addition to the $851,451 fine noted above, the Diesel Brothers also have to pay $1.2 million in court fees and, of course, halt their pollution promotion.

Oh well, I'm sure a cheap city car will arrive eventually, perhaps the Renault Twingo with a small 22kWh battery, but I can't find a Euro price/estimate and not for UK sale.
The Smart (the first ICE brand to go all EV) ForTwo and ForFour are both on sale in the UK. The ForFour is the same platform as the Twingo and they both share lots of software with the Renault. When I had a test drive they only had 17kWh battery, and 7kW charging speed, but they're up to 22kWh charging speed at least, not sure if the capacity's up. I'm sure a Twingo would be a bit cheaper though.I was watching a Bjorn Nyland YouTube review of the Zoe 50 and he couldn’t get the heater to work while he was charging the car. Do you have this problem on the 40? I am not talking about preheat but rather sitting in the car in winter while charging up on a journey.
In the old Zoe, you needed to have the keycard in the slot for it to work. This was the only time I would ever put the keycard in the slot. Maybe the new one has a similar system?2 -
I think this is BEV (not PV) news.
One inverter, charger etc to run the PV, charge the car, and offer V2H and V2G. Sounds like a great idea, bit pricey at $5k, and perhaps a single point of failure(?) but certainly interesting.Ossiaco Has Built The One Home Solar Inverter To Rule Them All
Ossiaco has developed a new inverter that it believes will truly revolutionize the worlds of residential energy management, solar, and EV charging in one fell swoop. As a privately-owned and funded company, Ossiaco has been flying under the radar for some time now, but we spoke to the leadership team and it is clear the team is perched at the edge of the cliff, ready to take the plunge into the market at scale.
Ossiaco’s CEO Marc-André Forget told me about the new residential DC charger the company has developed and how the company was primed to make a big move into the market. Then he dropped the price. At US$5,000, the charger is far from affordable on the surface, but he just smiled and kept going. If the team at Ossiaco can deliver on the full potential of the technology it is working with, the new device has the potential to be a complete game changer in the world of distributed energy resources (DER), delivering unparalleled value to homeowners.

Some BEV articles that caught my eye today:
VW openly stating that their upcoming BEV's are cheaper to own than a comparable ICE:Volkswagen Confirms Summer Launch For ID.3, Says It Will Cost Less Than Gas/Diesel Models
With the market introduction of the ID.3 this summer, Volkswagen will make e-mobility affordable for many people. The basic version of the ID.3 will be less expensive in Germany in terms of acquisition and operation than comparable internal combustion models. As regards operating expenses alone, ID.3 drivers in Germany will save about €840 per year. “With the ID.3, the electric car will finally become affordable. This model is entirely fit for everyday use and even costs less than an internal combustion model thanks to the environmental bonus,” says Thomas Ulbrich, Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen brand responsible for E-Mobility.

But probably more important is that the TMY long range AWD and performance models come in at a similar price to the Lexus RX350 AWD, the segment leader:Tesla Model Y Compared To Best Selling Luxury SUV, Lexus RX 350
After comparing the Tesla Model Y to BMW’s high-performance SUVs last week, I thought it might be a similar story comparing it to the best selling luxury SUV, the Lexus RX 350. As you will see in this comparison, it is a very different story. Some things are the same, like Tesla’s incredible lead in fuel efficiency and emissions, but other things, like performance and price, are very different. Where the BMW was comparable in performance, but MUCH more expensive, the Lexus is comparable in initial price, but has MUCH slower performance.

Extracts from this weeks Carbon Commentary newsletter:1, Vehicle-to-grid. Volkswagen in Germany began a push into the retail electricity business early last year as part of its expansion into EVs. It promised green electricity and a fast charger for its electric car customers. The head of strategy for VW indicated last week that it would now develop a vehicle-to-grid product that will use the batteries of its EV to supply electricity when needed. By 2030, he said, the company expected to have about 1 terawatt hour under its control. (This is more than the daily consumption of electricity in the UK). Details were not provided, and the advance publicity for Volkswagen’s new ID.3 makes no mention of V2G, but the logic is unavoidable: electric car batteries could provide highly competitive short term storage capability. Car manufacturers may become important participants in the energy market. German utility E.ON is already in a partnership with Nissan to provide V2G.
5, Warehouse transport electrification. Some of the trucks moving heavy trailers around the London logistics hub of parcels specialist UPS will soon be electric. Eventually, they will also be autonomous. French manufacturer Gaussin worked with UPS to develop ‘shifters’ that move trailers and containers around the huge hub, the company’s largest outside the US. In an unusual feature, the shifters have removable batteries that can quickly be replaced for recharging and for 24 hour operation.
10, The gradual decline of the internal combustion engine. Last week BMW promised 5 electric models by the end of 2021 and 25 by the end of 2023, of which over half will be all-electric. It predicts EV sales (it is unclear whether it is talking about the whole market or just its own sales) rising by more than 30% annually to 2025. This will see 2025 electric sales at least 7 times 2019 levels. Alongside the growth in the number of platforms for EVs, BMW promises to cut the number of petrol and diesel drivetrains in half by mid-decade, instead trying to use a universal design that can accept either electric or fossil fuel power. The argument for this approach is that it allows a manufacturer to gradually swing its production towards EVs as customer tastes change. In contrast, the argument against running electric and conventional drive trains together is that it inevitably introduces extra costs, perhaps substantial. GM also put out material on the switch to EVs, but many observers noted that the company still regards electric cars as a ‘segment’ of the car market, as opposed to being the inevitable dominant technology.Mart.
