They're thinking about bringing in E10 to replace the current E5 - 10% ethanol in petrol instead of the current 5%. Mentions some older cars can't run it. Which ones?! I hope whoever took that pic of the RX8 being filled up was well paid because I've seen it on so many articles!

Ford planning to release the all the electric Transit van in Europe in 2021 and the US in 2022.
I think the UK already has a PHEV?

Ford is going to make Transit electric van in the US in 2022
Ford announced today that it is bringing an electric version of its Transit cargo van to the US in 2022 after announcing an European launch for 2021.

Last year, the American automaker announced that it will launch an electric Transit van in Europe, where they have to increase their electric vehicle sales in order to comply with the latest emission regulations.

They didn’t talk about bringing the electric van to the US, where emission regulations are a lot less strict for the automotive industry.

Today, Ford confirmed plans to bring an all-electric Transit van to the US for the “model-year 2022.”

News, but this reads a bit like an advert, and I think "installing the fastest home chargers available" might be meaningless(?):

British Gas and VW unveil three-year electric vehicle deal

British Gas has teamed up with Volkswagen to accelerate the rollout of its electric vehicles (EV) across UK roads by helping drivers to charge up at home at a lower price.

The UK’s biggest energy company has agreed a three-year deal with the carmaker to offer owners of new electric VW vehicles a one-stop package to help plug into home charging.

Under the exclusive agreement British Gas engineers will be responsible for installing the fastest home car-charger available, alongside an energy tariff that offers cheaper rates for nighttime charging.

  • Not that I'm against them, it's just that with technology such that many people could now work from home rather than commuting on a twice daily basis one has to question quite where we are heading!

Working from home though is just not fun, ok now and again but not on a daily basis. Colleagues say the same, bar a minority.
I work from home all the time now, except for 1 day a month when I go to our London head office for a team meeting and rare occasions when a client wants me on site. I have found it really useful as I tend to work in the allotment, garden or do small DIY jobs on the house over lunch.

Has the Citroen Ami been mentioned yet? It's a tiny car, actually classed as a quadracycle, cost €6,000, does upto 60 miles and up to 28mph, which could be ideal for city driving with 20 + 30 mph limits, if ...... if .... it can accelerate briskly enough not to annoy others.

Great idea I think, but not sure if it's safe, practical etc etc, but if we all drove them, then I suppose bumps might be quite trivial?

I'd rather have a Renault Twizy rather than a Citroen Ami.  At least it can do 50MPH on the open road.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Not really news as such but I think EV insurance has been discussed previously in this thread ??
Just got my renewal quote through for the Zoe, it's only about £20 dearer than last year at £320 but I thought I'd run my details through a price comparison site anyway and to my amazement, the cheapest came out at £166 with identical cover.  :)

Ah but if it were a petrol Clio they'd be paying you!

Ok, that has happened in the past, but wow that's low.

New cars producing more carbon dioxide than older models

New cars sold in the UK produce more carbon dioxide than older models, according to new research that suggests the industry is going backwards in tackling the climate crisis.

Cars that reach the latest standards of emissions use cleaner internal combustion engine technology to combat air pollution, but the relentless rise in demand for bigger, heavier models meant that average emissions of the greenhouse gas rose, according to the consumer group Which?

The latest generation of cars produced 7% more emissions than those manufactured to earlier standards, testing of 292 models released in the UK since 2017 found. Cars account for just over 18% of UK emissions, according to government figures, and reining back pollution from the sector is seen as crucial to efforts to cut the country’s carbon emissions to net zero by 2050.

I think this has come up before, but basically, 'cleaner' cars are rolling out, but we are buying bigger ones, so more fuel consumed.

Perhaps whilst the percentage saved in fuel costs from going ICE to BEV will be the same, the 'volume' of savings from going from a big ICE to a big BEV might help to make them more attractive. But I suppose, first we need the volume and variety of BEV's, but that's looking good too.

Fuel prices IMHO need to increase, not only is the vehicle of choice an SUV that comes with increased fuel consumption most seem to be driven hard and fast. Certainly, that's what I witness daily either in the car or out for a cycle.  There should be a drive towards smaller, slower more economical vehicles.
The annual vehicle tax could so easily be replaced with higher fuel prices to reward low mileage drivers and small car owners. The fact that it hasn't happened is proof that the govt must be under the spell of some sort of lobbying, rather than do the right and rational thing. It's almost as if the govt is scared that people will reduce their mileages.
