Tesla are infamous for 'gaming' the EPA numbers - I often wonder if the WLTP is harder to game so whilst on EPA Tesla may considerably exceed their competition on WLTP the relative ranges may be more realistic even if all are overstated....

Flying visit to Devon in our Leaf 40 Friday-Saturday, 450 miles, 4 charging stops and an overnight granny charge, definitely used more per mile than in the summer but rain and headwind on the way there and lower temps (5 degrees) on the way back - car reported 3.9 miles per kwh for the trip vs long term average of 4.3/4.4 miles per kwh (again car reported)
Can’t remember if I posted this before. This isn’t actually gaming the system, rather showing exaggerated range at the start of a journey which slowly reduces as the journey progresses. I don’t know if it still goes on. I do remember, though, our 40kWh Leaf would often start out showing 160 miles after a full charge and, depending on weather, actually travel somewhere between 105 and 140 miles before reaching 0%.

Elon Musk reportedly gave the order himself for the displays in Teslas to present overly optimistic estimates of driving range

London launches the ULEZ expansion, and Stockholm says 'Hold my beer'.

My BiL lives in Stockholm, and recently bought a PHEV (secondhand).

Sweden Sends a Message to Stockholm Drivers: Go Electric or Go Home

Starting in 2025, it will be much harder to find a tailpipe in a central district of Stockholm.

Sweden’s capital said this week that it would ban conventional diesel-and-gas-powered vehicles from entering a significant part of its downtown, in what is one of Europe’s most ambitious efforts to combat automobile emissions.

The plan, announced on Tuesday by the vice mayor for transport, Lars Strömgren, will allow only vehicles that run on electricity or natural gas in a 20-block zone. The only exceptions are plug-in hybrid vans and vehicles driven by certified physically impaired drivers, police and emergency workers.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Be careful when quoting miles/kWh figures. These can also be optimistic.
When I drove the Nissan Leaf it was only after I got rid of my last one that I realised that m/kWh figures I'd been reading from the dash and quoting couldn't have been right.

I don't think your BiL gets a reprieve unless he's bought a van. It's actually a tiny area in the centre of less than 0.2 square kilometres. Unlike ULEZ, this ban is aimed mainly at commercial  vehicles.

Yep, what you've said, we asked him yesterday - just the very center. Even at the rate Sweden is switching to BEV's (~45% of new sales in Sept), it's an interesting move.

Very scary news, despite the fact that this guy escaped (at speed) in a heavily shot up BEV.

In another report I've seen, the driver said that he was still managing ~105mph when down to the front rim, with the car correcting the power distribution.

Israeli Driver Flees Hamas Gunfire With Help From Tesla Model 3 Performance: Report

The owner of a Tesla Model 3 Performance from Mefalsim, Israel, escaped alive from a shocking attack by Hamas fighters, and it was mostly thanks to his car, according to a report from Israeli news outlet Walla.

Fun news item, about a solar powered road legal car. I'm not sure that 'sunny' UK is ready for this, but I can imagine areas of the World, with better sun, and emerging car demand would work well. That said, a car that uses leading edge tech may be too expensive. But lots of future potential hopefully.

Btw, did some searching, and eventually found a reference to a 50kWh battery (but not 100% certain).

Solar-powered off-road car finishes 620-mile test drive across north Africa

A solar-powered car said to be the first in the world capable of driving off-road over long distances without recharging has completed a 620-mile (1,000km) test drive across Morocco and the Sahara.

The two-seat Stella Terra, designed by students at the Eindhoven University of Technology, completed the journey across a variety of challenging landscapes as part of a final test of its lightweight frame and aerodynamic profile.

The car, which runs off the energy provided by multiple solar panels on its roof, has a top speed of 90mph (145kmph), weighs only 1,200kg (1.2 tonnes) and has a range of at least 440 miles (710km) on a sunny day.

Wisse Bos, team manager of Solar Team Eindhoven, said the technology used, complementing a lightweight frame with highly efficient solar panels, was a decade ahead of anything on the market.

That is what I thought - in fact I expected that the 342 miles would be touch-and-go.  The 463 miles appears to be what was written but perhaps I have read that incorrectly.  @Coastalwatch - can you clarify please?
Hi GC, Coastalwatch said no charging enroute, so I assume some destination charging.

Thankfully Mart spotted the clue, although apologies if anybody was mislead, it certainly wasn't my intention. For further clarification the trip there was 223 miles with a further 39 as still being available.

    Thank you for clarifying.
The 463 miles did seem rather better than I was led to believe possible - there I was getting all excited.

Is your TM3 the SR version?
    223 + 39 = 262 miles.
Rather low against my expectation for the LR.  In fact, I am regularly at 200 miles for a one-day round trip (209 is my highest) and not feeling that I am anywhere near low charge.

Yes, it's the basic model suggesting 271 miles when fully charged. Doubt I'll ever achieve it, but what the heck when my bladder will only last about 50% of that! :)

Michaels tends to us EPA figures (I think) which is a good idea, and that's what I look towards too, for realistic numbers. In your case CW, the WLTP figures on the UK Tesla site, suggest 305 miles, but the EPA figures on the US site are 272, which you seem to have been close to, allowing for some of that 'below zero' extra range. Checked on EV-Database, and they have a 'real range' of 250 miles*. So for (naughty) drivers like me that don't get yours, GC's and Michaels' numbers, that seems reasonable.

Hi CW, just a tiny update, the UK WLTP range has now jumped to 318miles, with delivery dates of Jan 2024, so that suggests they will be the Highland upgrade.

So, plus 13miles, let's call it +11 to allow for the nonsense WLTP ratings.

So, based on your excellent driving, that might lift you from 260-270 miles, to 270-280 miles. Not sure we'll need the long range model soon, especially if they do, eventually, enlarge the batt by 10%.  ;)

The headline range figure for the TM3LR on the Tesla website seems to be for the upgraded 19" wheel rather than the standard 18" aero wheel.

    And lower down...

Great catch Nick, the base model states an estimated 344 miles on the 18in. I wonder what it will get, as and when it gets WLTP certification, but just knocking off the usual 12%, is 302 miles.

    Getting silly now .....  :D
