Government to legalise escooters — no tax, insurance or licence needed
....in Ireland!
I have mixed feelings on this. It would be great to be able to ride one without the bureaucracy but I can imagine some people being knocked flying by those riding irresponsibly and in the absence of insurance little remedy if injury sustained. Would there still be a responsibility to stop and provide details after an accident and will those riding dangerously be prosecuted?Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)2 -

Seriously though (yes I am a cyclist) I'm fine with them on roads but not pavements. If it gets people out of cars and public transport then that's a good thing.1 -
Another battery concept announced a couple of days ago, the result of a collaboration between five company's. Based on Lion Smarts in house developed cells and offered in three capacities. Seems a grand idea on the face of it.It will be interesting to see if/how many EV manufacturers take it up and how long it is before it actually makes it into the market place.
Consortium reveals very light battery concept
A consortium of five companies, Evonik, Forward Engineering, Lion Smart, Lorenz Kunststofftechnik and Vestaro, has developed a brand-independent, lightweight battery concept for electric vehicles. The solution is offered in three configurations with 65, 85 or 120 kWh. In the 65 kWh version, the battery weighs 412 kilograms, in the 85 kWh version 527 kilograms and the largest version with 120 kWh (and 800 volts), the battery comes to 789 kilograms.According to the partners, the batteries are at least equal to current battery models on the market regarding energy density, safety and cost. The entire concept has been successfully tested for suitability for series production and safety under extreme conditions.

Good to see this type of development which may help a few smaller independent motor manufacturers bring out new EV models.Hopefully we will soon companies like this manufacturing replacement battery packs so older EVs with less efficient battery tech can get range upgrades. I know Muxsan et al do replacement packs for the Leaf but there must be scope for other players to offer alternatives.Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)1

EV charging should be easy – so why isn't it?
Another article bemoaning the state of EV charging.
There tend to be two views on these articles.
1. The automotive press should shut up as they are scaring off people from transitioning to EVs
2. We need more of these articles to drive political opinion towards improving the charging infrastructure.

Sorry for pointing out once again that the charging network needs sorting out if people are going to move to EVs.
