Government to legalise escooters — no tax, insurance or licence needed

    ....in Ireland!

I have mixed feelings on this. It would be great to be able to ride one without the bureaucracy but I can imagine some people being knocked flying by those riding irresponsibly and in the absence of insurance little remedy if injury sustained. Would there still be a responsibility to stop and provide details after an accident and will those riding dangerously be prosecuted?

Aren't they intended for use on the road?  More likely that they'll be knocked flying rather than the other way round. I see them as similar to bicycles in terms of the annoyance factor when I'm driving; actually a bit less because no lycra is involved.

Seriously though (yes I am a cyclist) I'm fine with them on roads but not pavements.  If it gets people out of cars and public transport then that's a good thing.

Good to see this type of development which may help a few smaller independent motor manufacturers bring out new EV models.

Hopefully we will soon companies like this manufacturing replacement battery packs so older EVs with less efficient battery tech can get range upgrades. I know Muxsan et al do replacement packs for the Leaf but there must be scope for other players to offer alternatives.

EV charging should be easy – so why isn't it?

Another article bemoaning the state of EV charging.

There tend to be two views on these articles.

    1. The automotive press should shut up as they are scaring off people from transitioning to EVs
    2. We need more of these articles to drive political opinion towards improving the charging infrastructure.

Report: EV charger rollout too slow to support 2030 ICE ban

Sorry for pointing out once again that the charging network needs sorting out if people are going to move to EVs. If it isn’t sorted the 2030 ban on ICEVs won’t happen.
