That's him out then, there's the problem, right there.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
I don't understand how there can be such a thing as a 4 day week or a 5 day week.
In my experience, the hours worked have always been agreed between the employee and the employer.
Anyone can work any hours they want, so long as it's agreed by both parties.
I have no idea how many 'days' a week I work, because my pay slip states hours, not 'days'.0 -

One suspects the sweet shop approach is a trojan horse for Labour. Tap into sentiment. When the tax revenues aren't forthcoming then the game will change. Then the Middle Classes will be asked to foot the bill.
Are you serious?
Currency is created on a computer screen in the BoE.
Taxes are largely irrelevant in a fiat system.0 -

With the UK already under threat of having it's credit rating downdraded yet again. Politicians need to think carefully before adding more fuel to the fire. If there's no demand for the currency printed then the exchange rate will sink lower and lower. With the result that imported inflation will hit everyone hard in the pockets. Imported inflation being the bad kind where there's no offset.
Not if all the other central banks are doing the same.0 -
So let me get this straight. I would work 4 days a week but still get the same income I do now for 5?
There are lots of simplistic characterizations of this policy. The future needs to be based on jobs with higher productivity. Automation will reduce the time people spend working. The policy is an aspiration that will take 10 years to realise. IT may not work in all jobs but if automation can enable less people to produce the output. why should the workforce not share in these benefits.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. I'm sure I'm not the only one, this will really get the masses voting labour.
As long as they print money or quantitative easing but his time for the people, give it business not banks.
Every business will need to hire more people to make up for the lower workload for each employee
Just like right to buy for tenants, they need to create currency out of thin air to fund these things.
Far better than bailing out banks, Labour are going to bail out the poeple, and this is the vote winner come December
From what I know of working in the private sector the workers will just be pushed to get five days work completed in four.
Employers have got used to having workers over a barrel with zero hour contracts and the very real fear of trying to survive on the dole so I can’t see them easing up on their workforce and employing more people. If a four day working week is forced on them they will just push their staff harder or even start laying people off as those companies large enough relocate overseas.0 -
So Labour will employ 20000 more policemen but reduce the working week from five days to four which means that overall the police will work fewer hours than they do now. Yeah. That’ll fix the crime problem. The fascists of the future will call themselves anti-fascists.0

I agree that the four day week is controversial. However, if you're going into an election attracting votes with a giveaway, you may as well have it to apply to the majority of the electorate you want to vote for you, than callous corporations who can't vote, and a handful of multi million and billionaires.
Of course, historically, English people will usually vote for the corporations and billionaires interests, rather than their own. So, I'm not expecting this to go down that well on the doorsteps.0 -
What is that 32 hours a week ?
Well in my world that is Wednesday and a 3 day week0 -

Yes,and this shows why trade unions are such a terrible thing. Workers being forced to cram five days work into four without automation is one of the many benefits of having a trade union.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment.
