HSBC Fraud Query

Knowing fraud investigators like I do, you can be reasonably sure they won't believe a word you have told them (they rarely do). However, unless they can prove you were complicit in the 'fraud', you should be OK.
Take care though, they may check your account, to see whether any other genuine online transactions have come from the same 'device' as the fraudulent ones. They may also be checking with the betting companies to see what sort of ID checks they did on the person creating the betting accounts. If they find evidence of passport ID etc, and if this points to you, they may come knocking.
If you've done nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear.
Hiya Terry - No, they managed to withdraw over £500 more than was actually in my account (including the overdraft) - Why HSBC allowed these transactions to take place when there was no longer any money in the account is a discussion for another day! Seems like the 'fraud team' must have been taking a ciggie break whilst this was happening0 -
As for the OP - I am just trying to get to the bottom of this and stating facts. So far what the OP has said doesnt make sense. He said he has never used online betting before but you cannot deposit money unless you have registered an account. No-one can register or make an account in someone elses name without having all the details and paperwork. Even then it would be pointless as the money can only go in and out of the OP bank account.
Do you work in a card fraud team?
I bet not.
All they do is set up a fake account using stolen card details. Just the same as they would making a online purchase.
There are ways that winnings can be moved and withdrawn. BUT I WILL NOT SAY HOW. As that would give the game away.
This is a very common fraud. Both banks and gambling companies are well aware of it.Life in the slow lane0 -
If you do not know what you are talking about then do not give false information. I repeat it is impossibble to do fraud or money laundering via online betting.
The money cannot be transferred to any account apart from the person who is registered to bet and gamble. Even to register and gamble they do ID checks and are thorough.
It makes no sense for a 'fraudster' to transfer money to a betting company to gamble and even if he wins 1 million pounds he will never ever see it. Furthermore, to transfer money to an online account you need all sorts of passwords and details.
I have a feeling the OP has gambled away some money and is trying to say fraud to get it back
If anyone on here can educate me on how its possibble to do fraud via online betting please share......
I assure you this has nothing to do with me and quite frankly i'm fuming reading your responses - I guess people like you are the reason why this fraud investigation hasn't been finalised yet.0 -

What you have to be aware of, is you limit is not a solid brick wall like it used to be. Now because you have until the end of the working day to bring your account back in line (or not) they have a limit that you can go over by. You will never be told what this limit is.
Computers do not need ciggie breaks :rotfl:
Please do not worry.
Unless you are involved, then you have nothing to worry about.:TLife in the slow lane0 -
Apologies to the OP if you are offended. Trying to make sense of this situation. Why on earth would someone deposit money into a betting company when they know its impossible to take out. How did they get your username and password for the company, create a profile, send your ID in (passport and licence) and on top of that get your card details!
All this just to waste your money and lose a few bets. Its just bizzare
What betting company was it too?0 -

It was Bet365 and Betway (2 betting companies I have personally never had any sort of account with!)
I'm assuming those 2 companies don't require additional ID (passport or driving licence) because those two items have never been out of my sight for years. I'm guessing the crooks have devised a method of transferring money to a different bank account0 -
I have an account with 365 and i know how they work. No chance the crooks can get away with anything to do with them. Makes this even more bizzare. I suggest you contact 365 - they have IP addreses and all details of the account. You need to explain what happened because the betting account made has to be in your name which means the crooks made it in your name with your details
How was the money deposited? Card i presume0 -

You assume WRONG. It took me all of about 2 minutes to go to the Betway website and verify their requirements. You who have alegedly suffered this fraud couldn't be bothered to do this; you just assumed.

Any details we request from you are purely to verify your identity – this is a legal requirement, for your protection and for ours.

I don't really understand this hostility from some posters on here - I posted a genuine question hoping for some advice and instead have had people calling me a fraudster?!
Why would I bother to check Betway policies? I can't bloody well do anything about it anyway!0
