I think you should placate all these holier than though types and give the physical vouchers to baby to play with....after all they were it's presents.... see if it buys anything or just squanders them Mt. Burns style.... after 23 months if it hasn't spent them I'd say it is fair game to call it out on its ungratefulness and as a life lesson spend them yourself..
(Vouchers and gift cards are the worst gifts ever by the way, at least actual money could have gone into a savings account and started to accrue baby some interest, so baby can use it with no caveats, shame on you voucher/gift card givers)

  • Personally I think if you've just had a baby, you're going to need all the help you can get and if you need some pj's then get them. Sounds like baby has all she needs including a thoughtful, loving mom. Don't feel guilty. If you're anything like I was when my kiddies were born, you probably spend most of your time in them. So treat yourself and enjoy. And congratulations on your new baby
  • Having just given money for a 1st birthday I would be miffed to find it had not been used on the child and even more miffed to find the mum spent it on pjs.
I gave the money for the child otherwise what,s the point. Certainly would,nt hand over money again if that happened.

I was literally just going to post that. If I were the gift giver, I would feel strange about this

It seems really wrong to me. I mean I am not one for moral high ground, but if it were me, I couldn't do it and feel comfortable with myself

Babies can never have everything they need, they grow and evolve in to bigger people. What is wrong with getting her something that will be useful in six months, or a winter coat for next year? That is what I would do

  • If money is tight and the baby has all it needs at this moment in time i see nothing wrong in a pair of PJ's for mum. A happy mum helps create a happy child. There will be plenty of other times when the child's needs take priority and mum goes without. At the age of 1 I don't think the child will notice!
  • I would spend the vouchers on the baby but wait for the sales. Buy clothes that are one or two sizes bigger than the babe is now. That way you win both ways. You don’t need to buy as many clothes later on, so you have more then to spend on yourself. The sales aren’t long to wait!

    Go for it.

If M&S collapse tomorrow, the vouchers are worthless, so not stealing anything.

I would buy the PJ's and pay the money into a bank account for baby.
