Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

Our tariff is coming to an end this month so looking into moving supplier.
Put all our details into the energy saving club, select our current tariff, enter accurate meter readings for the year (minus 14 days) and it says I'm paying almost £400 less than I actually am?
Energy club also pops up saying that the next tariff Avro want to put me on is £26 a month cheaper than now whereas Avro have told me, based on my usage, it's going to go up by £19 a month?
What am I doing wrong?0 -

Avro do state your estimated annual usage on their statements, but IME that is always incorrect, and that's on an account which has been with them, providing monthly readings, for over a year.
Look at statements for almost a year ago, then when the reading date matches this year, take readings. From those you can calculate your actual annual usage for the previous 12 months.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. The differences are quite stark so are you sure you are comparing dual fuel estimates ?Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

You are underestimating slightly by using 14 days under a year, but that shouldn't make £400 worth of difference. Maybe Avro are charging you more than your usage equates to. Easy to check, calculate the cost yourself for the kWh you entered and add 365 days of standing charge for each fuel. Don't forget to add 5% VAT if it isn't included in the rates.

This is what I did and put that into the energy club. I knew it wouldn't be accurate but as you say, £400 over 14 days must be wrong!
I've just checked our statement and seen this for the gas:
Explaining Your Gas Statement Formula
Volume Conversion Factor: converts your meter units to metric. Meter Units 833.10
Imperial meter - 2.83 or Metric meter - 1.00 Volume Conversion Factor 1.00
Volume Correction: Accounts for changes in your volume of gas Metric Units 833.10
based upon temperature and pressure. Industry Standard of 1.02264 Volume Correction x
1.02264000
Calorific Value: the measurement of the energy content of gas Calorific Value x 39.6
which varies throughout the year Convert to kWh / 3.6
Convert to kWh: Divide by 3.6 to give number of kilowatt-hours kWh Used 9371.5
So my gas meter readings aren't in kWh?
This doesn't happen with my electric statement / readings.0 -

I wasn't looking forward but rather at what the energy club says I should have spent in the last 12 months compared to what I have actually spent / used.
If that bits not right then the estimates for next year would be completely off?0 -

Haha! That completely explains it! Current amount has jumped to almost 4 figures.....
Thank you so much, I had no idea and thought I was losing the plot :rotfl:0 -
We are with Scottish Power with an economy 10 meter. Our tariff is an E7 one over 10 hours. Our fixed deal finishes end of April and need any help to switch as SP tariffs are so expensive. Thanks S x0

Enter your current tariff details to get a list of new tariffs available for your meter type. Come back here with any questions which the lovely people on here will be only too willing to answer if they can.Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Don't switch supplier.
If you really want to pay full price for your electricity, rather than getting 10 hours per day at a reduced rate as at present, give SP a call, and I'm sure they will glady take your hard earned cash off you.
If you want to switch supplier, then you will need to ask SP to change your metering.
A cost may apply, as well as any costs associated with the wiring & appliances moving from your current E10 setup; you will have to sort the latter out yourself.0
