Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

The headline on the big switch is
"We've negotiated cheaper than the cheapest energy deals"
Well not true actually. I just did the comparison via the website, and it turns out that SPARK energy is cheaper than the cheapest deal (EON)
When the results came up, there was a suggestion that although I am on a cheap deal, I might consider a lock in of a year via EON
So my SPARK energy deal is 10% cheaper, and energy prices are falling. Why would I want a lockin?
I really think Money Saving Expert ought to know better, at best it's misleading, and at worst................
Welcome to MSE :hello:
Not sure where you are quoting from, but on the main offer site it does say the comparison is based on typical average usage and will vary by region.
And on both the main offer site and the MSE email it does say
Will these definitely be the cheapest deals?
Usually, but in a few cases in specific regions with specific usage they may not be, which is why we get you to do the Cheap Energy Club full market comparison as part of the process so you're sure. And if new tariffs launch after we've sent this, they're there too.0 -
I just switched providers, and am still in the cooling off period.
The collective switch has thrown up a cheaper option - my question is, if I cancel with the supplier I am switching to (phone call tonight), can / will my Cheap Energy Club details update in time to switch to the cheaper supplier?
Advice gratefully received.
Thanks!0 -

Not quite sure what you're asking here.
Have you already switched through CEC and want to cancel the switch?
Or have you switched through another comparison site and want to cancel that switch?Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

I switched through CEC.0 -
There have been reports on here of problems trying to cancel a switch through CEC but I don't know whether they have yet been resolved.
I'd say the first thing to try is to start another switch via CEC but if that fails you may need to go to another comparison site to make the switch after you've cancelled the first one with the supplier involved.Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

I have switched via CEC using another email address, and contacted the provider who I was switching to, to cancel. (I also contacted CEC to request my pending switch be cancelled, and my status be updated.)
I wanted to make sure I got the collective switch deal!

If I switch via the CEC to a new tariff but the same company...I'm with First Utility at the moment and the new tariff is also with First Utility...will I still get the £30 cashback?
...I may as well stay with F.U. as the monthly cost is exactly the same as the e-on one.0 -

The CEC says clearly in the RH Column whether or not you are eligible for cashback
(of course other terms apply such as no more than 1 cashback payment in 12 month period)0 -
I thought that the idea of CEC was to get the cheapest energy deal. If it does not deliver on that ambition, which it clearly does not in my case because SPARK ALWAYS comes out cheaper with no lock in, or cost if you want to leave. The percentage varies, but in my case it's 10% cheaper or £178/year
I also thought that the suggestion on the CEC website when it found that I had a cheaper deal was to suggest that I should consider fixing for a year (presumably with EON.)
Currently energy prices are going down, and most people think that the gas suppliers will be forced to lower their costs over the next few months. So suggesting a one year lockin to a fixed price deal seems irresponsible.0 -
I don't quite understand your point.
Spark Energy comes out cheaper than what? If it always comes out cheaper then why not switch to it?Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
