I am with Scottish power. Online fixed Price energy sept 2014no standing charge. At the moment I pay £88 monthly DD for dual fuel. Apparently I am £245 in credit. I have no idea what happens to this credit if I switch, or even if I should switch. I live alone in a small 2 bed house. Does anybody have any advice for me? Thanks.0

When you switch, you get a final bill from the supplier you're leaving, and if there is still a credit balance, they reimburse you. You then start from scratch with the new supplier.

Being £245 in credit at the start of winter is not excessive and just means your supplier is less likely to increase the DD in the short term.
I would suggest you stay put until September 2014.
Edit
You should check on an energy-comparison site to see what is available to you now at your consumption levels. Disregard any "savings" claimed and just look at the annual costs compared with your current annual costs.Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

I am with Southern Electric for dual fuel and I have tried to sign up to the Cheap Energy Club to see who I could switch to but in the list of energy companies Southern Electric does not appear. I would have thought with them being one of the main companies they would be on the list Can someone tell me if I am missing something?
Many thanks for your help.0 -

I used the Cheap Energy Club to find a cheaper fixed rate tariff which was M&S energy. I applied to switch but was turned down because, although I do not use economy7, I have an economy 7 meter and M&S can't use this, so they cancelled the switch and now the offer has expired. I would like to check for other offers but when I go onto Cheap Energy Club it says I have already got an active switch and I can't find out how to cancel this and search again. Can anyone help please?
Thanks
Under the Energy Club Frequently Asked Questions it says :-
How do I report an issue?
We can't give tailored advice on which tariff to switch to but If you have an issue you think needs attention, please email energyclub@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I have just had another look for my area and under Scottish Power is Spark Energy but no Southern Electric but thanks very much for your help.0 -
I need guidance over a subtle detail. My current deal is due to run out in January, and I can switch without penalty, so the timing is ideal. My problem is that my current deal includes a free annual boiler service. I have a service booked for october 24th. It will be my second free service, but I have been in this deal for well over 2 years.
My question is this: can I arrange a switch now, or am I likely to forfeit the boiler service?
Many thanks.0
