So you are saying anyone who lives in the Southend, Basildon, Wickford areas, despite being miles from London, are actually in the London region as far as gas supply is concerned? I didn't know that.
In truth, not many people do. In the greater scheme of things the differences aren't easily noticeable but at the margin, which comparison sites are looking at, they could make a difference to switching decisions.

If you look at the <Xoserve gas network map>, however, you will notice, for example, that the London (NT) gas region extends along the Thames as far as the east coast. But this is just the glaringly obvious area; there are several others around London

I agree, however, that this is not the issue for Perry525. I just raised it as a matter of interest.

Edit
I did a cost estimate about a month ago on nPower's Energy Online Aug 2014 tariff and my results were as follows:-
CM2 6 * * (Eastern elec & Eastern gas regions)
Elec: £155.13 + 9.460p/kWh (excl. VAT)
Gas: £176.66 + 3.334p/kWh (excl. VAT)

EC2M 2 * * (London elec & London gas regions)
Elec: £154.40pa + 9.980p/kWh (excl. VAT)
Gas: £175.57pa + 3.428p/kWh (excl. VAT)

RM3 7 * * (Eastern elec & London gas regions)
Elec: £155.13pa + 9.460p/kWh (excl. VAT)
Gas: £176.66pa + 3.334p/kWh (excl. VAT)

Note that for the RM postcodes, gas is quoted at Eastern region's gas prices. But, as it's in the London gas region, the supplier will charge the London region price - which has a higher unit price (but about £1 per year less standing charge).

• NOTE: Co-op have as of today (12th Feb 2013) raised their prices for new customers. The Tariff isn't immediately available on their website, but the comparison websites are still showing the 'old' price
if you do a comparison on the Co-op website, it gives you the new price comparison - which is significant - Simply Switch showed me an £80 difference (more!) against my current supplier, whereas Coop showed £220 more on their website.

BE AWARE of this change:

Which site?

The article mentions at least 8 different independent, accredited sites.
Have you checked using any others?
Surely you don't think they could all be equally incorrect do you?

Put simply, I was directed to the Spark site, which provided their rates for this area, I compared this with the rates I am paying NPower and NPower are cheaper. I did not include the £100 or (for me) what amounts to just over one months free gas and electricity promised at the end of the year.
Tariff Notes from Spark this may be of interest?

• Monthly Direct Debit payments are made in advance. Payments must be maintained to the recommended level ensuring a credit balance of 1 month's peak usage at all times.†
• Variable rate tariff - energy prices may go up or down.
• This tariff has a standing charge.
• Online billing - view your bills online.
• Monthly Direct Debit - in advance
• Dual fuel only - you must take both gas and electricity.
• No early termination fees.
• Notes: This tariff is not available to customers whose gas is supplied via an Independent Gas Transporter (IGT) network.
• †Collection value will initially be set based on 1/12th of estimated annual consumption of 3500kwh electricity and 16500kwh gas before being reviewed quarterly to reflect actual consumption.
• Higher payments will be applied during the winter months to cover the cost of increased consumption.
• The first payment will be taken approx 18 days after the cool off period has expired.
• The next payment will reflect your preferred payment date and Spark will use this date to take future Direct Debit payments each month thereafter.
• I had not received my cashback from Simply Switch after approx 120 days so called to chase. Told by Jamie this afternoon that payments not now being made unless chased. 90 day payment advice not now being honored. He said he was frustrated but this was new way of doing things. Simply Switch/Money Expert is removed from my trusted organizations.:(:(
• I have changed my dual fuel to COOP because they came up as cheapest in a comparison. Before they have even effected the change they have sent me a mail to advise of a price rise of 9.0% for electricity and 8.5% for gas.

The time for automatic cancellation had already passed by the time I received this. Can they do that?

• Cash back will be paid approximately 90 days after your switch date as long as the terms and conditions of the offer have been followed and there is no delay in getting your switch confirmed with the supplier. The cash back will be paid directly into your bank account. If you have not received the cash back or have any questions regarding the cash back please contact customerservice@simplyswitch.com.
• To avoid any delays with your cash back or if you have not received your cash back, once your supply is live please visit our claim page and enter your details so that we can make sure the confirmation from the provider is received on time.

The notice you were sent should explain your right to reject the price increase (and switch supplier)

The price increase does not come into effect for existing customers until 15 April, so plenty of time to switch anyway :)
• Signed up for Cheap Energy Club. Put in my present tariff and annual usage in kWh. They said I'm already on lowest deal they can find (uSwitch and Which said the same). However, my present deal with nPower runs out end of February. Will the Energy Club take account of this and give me a new quote before 1st March in time to switch or does it assume I am permanently on this nPower tariff and compare with that forever more?

I tried to re-enter details using the Standard tariff I go onto in March but I couldn't edit anything.

You'd probably be better off asking this in the cheap energy club feedback thred
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4431265

Or you could follow the advice given in the link in the OP of this thread and find the best option for you.
As it will take at least 3 weeks to switch supplier, You may as well look today :)
(in the event you find the best option is with the same supplier, at least you could contact them to make sure that is the tariff you move to on 1st March)
• I joined the Greater Manchester Fair Energy scheme which submitted for bids on behalf of over 35,000 households. They sent over my personal offer last week.
The winning company is Scottish Power and the offer was based on the readily available Online Fixed Energy tariff September 2014, with a £40 Cashback to NEW customers only. SP offer a £60 cashback via a well known Cashback site.
I still totally agree with the mass switching principles as at least it does assist those households that have not switched before and are currently on rip off tariffs. However, there is to me clearly an issue related to the competitiveness of the UK energy market as a whole. I hope I'm proved wrong as results of other schemes come in but suspect not.
