Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback
Comments
-
Hi,
I did a comparison through the MSE link to moneysupermarket, and from my list chose co-operative energy. The only option to switch was by phone, not online, so I called the number moneysupermarket provided which went direct to co-op. I asked about the cashback offer and a few days later they said I needed to contact moneysupermarket with my account number. I have, but am still waiting to hear from them.
Has anyone else had to switch Not via the website and has this worked for them?
Super pleased with cooperative energy customer service so far BTW!
Thanks
You can't get cashback with all suppliers.
Only the suppliers the comparison site is able to switch you will earn cashback. All approved sites must list all generally available suppliers/tariffs even if they can't switch you directly. Some sites allow you to filter your results to only those the comparison site can switch you to - I think moneysupermarket is one that allows this filtering.
If you had to call the supplier directly, it sounds like moneysupermarket does not offer cashback for that supplier/tariff. (or perhaps you were already a customer of that particular supplier)0 -
The amount of newbies that claim similar on this board is amazing, and to date I can't remember anyone proving the allegation.
Give us the data you input to the two sites if you think there is a difference in output. Perhaps you will be the first to prove a variance?
Always happy to be proved there may be an inconsistency, and I challenge you to povide us with the evidence to judge for ourselves.
No problem - I haven't been through every figure on the chart but given exactly the same kwh figures entered in the last half hour, for OVO New Energy Fixed, annual cost is quoted as:
Simply Switch £1462 (11.62p/kwh electric 3.75p/kwh gas)
Moneysupermarket £1412 (11.015p/kwh electric 3.675p gas)
Only the Simply Switch tariff matches OVO's own online tariff.
Both sites show my current tariff, EON Save Online 12 with costs:
Simply Switch £1414 per annum
based on kwh costs 7.2180/3.90101 electric, 22.9850/12.1590 gas)
Moneysupermarket £1518 per annum
based on 7.741/4.161 electric, 23.898/13.241 gas
This time the Moneysupermarket tariff is correct.
To put this into context, Moneysupermarket reckon OVO will save me £106 but Simply Switch reckons that OVO will cost me £48 more than my current tariff.
For clarity I should mention that annual costs for Spark, Co-op, nPower and British Gas were exactly the same on both sites but savings varied due to the difference in their estimate of my current costs.
Hope this helps.0 -
Hi
I'm a first time buyer soon ill be in my new home. But this will be the very first time ill be talking to gas and elec suppliers. As most websites ask me what am I currently paying and with whom. I can't really answer coming from a large house share renting where bills are included after being first split up.
Am I walking into a minefield? Will I be ripe for picking on by the big players? Any advice would be appreciated. As I guess I'll only be in this situation once.

Hi,
They have replied to my email and said "However there is an error on the website at the moment which is advising the cash back so we have to honour this payment."
- I was confused as they said they did cashback for it but couldn't go direct. At least I know I wasn't being thick! And they have kindly sorted.0 -

I'm sure that at least one of the comparison sites I looked at offered a bit where you could put in house details i.e. numbers of rooms etc., and they guesstimated it for you. Didn't try it myself but you could see what they say to give you an idea. Or if you know any friends with similar houses (e.g. you both live in similar sized 2 bed terraces) then you could ask if they'd give you their rough figures.0 -
When you click the special MSE link to moneysupermarket.com, you should see this filling the top left of the landing page.
But as explained in the article, you could earn a possible £40 cashback if you switch both gas & electric though the special MSE link via Simplyswitch

Note that I am on the Energy Helpline site now (link above) and note it contains cashbackmse in the website link.0 -
I am switching from npower to coop and started the switch a few weeks back. Yesterday I got a letter from npower saying I have to call them and finalise my electricity account to make sure the transfer goes smoothly. Is this true?
npower is very annoying to deal with. This letter came on an old account number and not the new one as well (they merged my gas and electricity into one account and have been sending separate bills on the new account) recently.0 -

You are not the first to receive such a letter from nPower
