I'm confused!!
My current fix with Scottsh Power (Online Saver 16) comes to an end this month so I'm looking for the next one.
I have input my exact fuel usage into Moneysavingsupermarket, Energy Helpline and nPower's own website via Quidco.
My usage is:
Electricity 5084 KWh per year (day 3492, night 5084 which is 31%)
Gas 24511 KWh per year
On Energy helpline and nPower's website those figures give me an annual cost of 1666 / £1670. But on moneysavingsupermarket it's showing an annual nPower cost of £1562.95
This is all for the same tariff, nPower's Energy Online April 2014.
I have doublechecked my figures and it always comes out the same. Can anyone advise as to the huge difference?
Thanks
Lynne
Please advise supply region (or first part of your post code) and hopefully someone will look deeper into this for you, otherwise we are just guessing.
Also please reconfirm electricity usage.
Do you use a total of 5084kWh per year, 3492kWh of which is at day rate (and so your night usage would be 1592kWh, being 31% of total electricity usage)?
Edit: I see you live in the Nottigham area
Energyhelpline has the nPower Energy Online April 2014 as:
Electricity:
Daily Standing Charge: 40.95 p per day
Unit charge: 14.122 p / kWh
Night unit charge: 7.896 p /kWh
Gas:
Daily Standing Charge: 23.31 p per day
Unit charge: 3.742 p / kWh
A total of £105 p.a discounts apply
Moneysupermarket.com has the nPower Energy Online April 2014 as:
Electricity:
Daily Standing Charge: 41 p per day
Unit charge: 11.120p / kWh
Night unit charge: 7.896p /kWh
Gas:
Daily Standing Charge: 23 p per day
Unit charge: 3.742 p / kWh
A total of £105 p.a discounts apply
A check of the nPower website confirms the prices EHL are using are correct, and that there is an error in the prices MSM are using.
EHL shows there are a number of cheaper options than the nPower tariff. Don't forget to compare gas & electric separately too as that could be a cheaper option0 -
Thank you so much for this; I really appreciate it. So comparison sites aren't as foolproof / correct as they'd have us believe, I hope someone reports that to Martin.
Yes, those figures are correct (we have solar panels hence lower electricity consumption)

Why did you ignore the advice given in the article and in the responses you received to your earlier post in this thread?
Sorry Wywth - I read your responses but they didn't seem helpful and the tone was rather aggressive.
Yes I am sure of the figures. No, I don't want other members to check my calculations but thanks for the suggestion. The dd/non dd difference was £15 per year according to energyhelpline. Other comparison sites could not improve on that. I am happy with my saving after switching to the Coop.0 -
Hi all, is anyone with OVO or M&S?
My yearly figures are:
4.461 KWH for electricity and 16.823 KWH for gas
And I've decided to fix this year rather than have a variable and will be moving on to E.ON standard plan in January so need to make the move now.
Those two are coming up cheapest for fixed, but never heard of any of them and also, when I use 'Which' comparison, the savings are extremely less than energyhelpline!"I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0 -

How does the annual cost of either your existing supplier/tariff and that of M&S or OVO differ that given to you by (a) Switch with whinh and (b) Energyhelpline?
I see you've had trouble recently before with using comparison sites.

Ovo are a small supplier, but I had no significant issues with them. Be aware of the odd way they set monthly DD's especially if joining in the winter period. Essentially they don't like you to go into debt (but any credit is well rewarded) - more details on their website.
M&S energy (Marks & Spencer) is supplied by Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE)0 -
I know with MS fixed going via topcashback/quidco gives a substantial discount currently.CharleneUK wrote: »Hi all, is anyone with OVO or M&S?

Thanks both. I entered the exact same figures and choices and they came up with different discounts making it complicated to choose. But I'm going to switch today as this is giving me a headache.
I'll double check again, but as I want fixed it's a bit easier to see what the total will cost over the period."I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0 -

Hi,
They have replied to my email and said "However there is an error on the website at the moment which is advising the cash back so we have to honour this payment."
- I was confused as they said they did cashback for it but couldn't go direct. At least I know I wasn't being thick! And they have kindly sorted.
i've just signed up with Co-op too based on their price and the £30 cashback.
like you i was worried only a direct line to Co-op was given, and i was wondering how they track it for cashback purposes.
the link from MSE didnt indicate any exclusions and the Co-op tariff definitely had the £30 cashback assigned to it on the results page, so they better honour it!!!:eek:0 -
Just got off the phone to NPower fuming. I switched from them 12 weeks ago and looked forward to repayment of a considerable credit balance, as detailed on the final bill. After waiting patiently I finally realised that it had been too long and rang them, only to be told that they do not "automatically" repay the money, but wait until customers ring and request it!!!!! There is no mention of this "policy" anywhere on the bill.
I was gobsmacked, got agitated, and have asked for a manager to ring back and explain themselves.
Is this practise legal? Anyone else affected by this? Who should I complain to?0
