Switching away from NPower. Do I really need to call them?

I'm in the process of switching my gas and electricity. I'm going from NPower to Southern Electric.

NPower have sent me a letter virtually pleading me to call them 'finalise my account', but at the same time telling me that if I want to stay with them they can help.

To me, this sounds suspiciously like a ploy just to get me to call them so they can have a crack at convincing me to stay with them. Having spent ages on hold to NPower before, can anyone advise if its really worth calling or not? The letters from Southern Electric I've received actively tell me I don't need to lift a finger.

They want to offer you a sweetener to stay.

Why not - They may make an offer you can't refuse, but make sure that you get any offer they do make in writing all the way down to the price details

SE will soon be asking for your meter readings, and at the same time advise you of the dates they take over, with maybe different dates for Elec & Gas - n'power are advised of these readings and dates through the 'system' - You don't have to advise n'power

Keep safe a record of the meter reads given SE and the dates - Even better, take a photo of the meters

To be honest, I would just go. I am currently involved in an appalling mess with npower - I won't bore folks with my case (it would go on and on) the sheer incompetence of the npower complaints process which piles incompetence on top of incompetence to such an extent that it starts to look deliberate.
Let them beg and I strongly advise others not to get involved with them at all. A quick search on the internet will show you as much as you need to know.
Go and don't look back. Yes npower may "make you an offer you can't refuse" but we know what those are.

Just bare in mind that they only know you are switching is because your new supplier has initiated the transfer process.

To get you back, they switch you back from your new supplier so be careful if any early termination charges.

Im in the same situation as you. Im switching to EDF Blue. They sent me the same letter as you have got . But dont bother to phone them as i did. On every occation i was told the waiting time to be answered was between 30 and 50 miniutes. I did get through quite quickly early on only to be told it wasnt nessesary as meter readings and such would be given to them by your new supplier. Then put me on to another dept to try and make me change my mind.

But this is the best one. After my electric switched NPower sent emails to ask for my last meter readings. But you cant do it online because your not a customer anymore.

Best thing to do is give your new supplier the information then leave them alone and let them sort it between them.

I'm having an ongoing issue in trying to get a refund from Npower-switched supplier over 6 weeks ago(finalised) and have constantly e-mailed them asking when I will receive my refund of over £260 which is sitting in my Npower account.
No replies to emails, and dont have time to call as I work long shifts.
Quite frankly am fed up with the whole episode, and will never recommend them at all to anyone.
    Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
  • Got the same letter recently and won't phone them thanks to this thread. The company is seriously scummy! Apparently they combined my electricity and gas accounts into one account number and then sent me a bill claiming I was overdue (I'm not, I pay all my bills when I get them). I assumed they messed up since the amount was different than the other two separate bills I recently paid...but a few days later they sent me a collection agency mail.

Will be glad to be with Coop soon.

They have done the same with me. When i was with them i was duel fuel and had one account number for gas and electric but now i have left they have split them. I have had a final gas bill which was last to switch and in credit. But the final electric bill is no where to be seen which was first to be switched. And of course there is no sign of them crediting what they owe me back into my account.
So i shall spend tomorrow listening to some bloody awful music while i wait for my call to be answered.
  • Just started my switch from npower today. I wont be calling them.
