    Hey All
How long does this switch take?, I did it via Moneysupermarket on the 5th of May for British Gas and am yet to hear anything. Would have thought I would have recieved something from British Gas by now?

I applied to change to British Gas in March and they still have not sorted out the meter reading with my previous provider (Atlantic) so both are now taking money from my bank !!
  • I don't really want to tie myself into an energy plan which has penalties if I terminate early. This is mainly because I'm in rented accommodation and can't be 100% sure I'll be in the same property in 12 or 18 months' time.

I'm currently with British Gas. I've been looking at switching to EBI Co. Their Gas would have saved me £15 this winter, but their electric would have cost me *marginally* more. Given that British Gas have today announced that further price hikes could be possible, should I switch to EBI Co now in the hopes that their prices don't shift as much? I should still save on Gas/Electric overall... and could still switch to another supplier if EBI Co wasn't delivering value and I had more idea of where I'd be living in the slightly more distant future.

    Thoughts? :money:
    Anyone have any thoughts?

Why do these comparison websites always seem to show the wrong rates for my current tariff?

For instance, I'm on nPower Go Save according to my bill (was on Go Fix but that expired in January). My bill shows that for electricity (they haven't charged me for Gas yet) I'm charged 7.2p/day and the first 536 units at 12.74p. Yet energyhelpline.com says that Go Save has no standing charge and the rates are 17.157 p for the first 182 kWh per quarter, and 13.377 p thereafter.

This obviously makes the suggested savings completely wrong and I always end up having to calculate this myself by comparing my actual current unit rates and standing charges with any potential new provider's actual rates (if the comparison websites get my current rates wrong, I can't be sure they've got the other provider's rates right either and have to double-check these as well).
  • I am currently on essentials tariff with bg is it worth changing to a fixed cap tariff???
  • I am currently with Eon (Save Online 2) but with price rises forecast decided to check the comparison sites. I was interested to find that on all of the sites (4) the large SAVINGS FIGURE had a minus sign in front of the £ figure; i.e. in all cases my current price is better, by a long way than anything else on offer.

I still felt that I might be better on a fixed price, for the future, and decided I would contact them today to see if they could recommend anything better. I was quite surprised to get a phone call today from Eon asking if I had been on the Uswitch site looking for a better deal. (I was pleased because that saved me an expensive phone call) The man was quite keen to promote the Save Online 7 tariff but when he worked it out he could not believe that it was going to be more expensive than my current deal; eventually he realised that although the rates were cheaper on the Online 7 I was getting a 27% discount on the SaveOnline 2 deal. This is made up of 6% for Direct Debit, 2% Dual Fuel and 18.7% Online Discount. Please note Save Online 2 is no longer available!

I have decided to stay on my current tariff until they turf me off as I believe they have to give me a months notice.

I do wonder how many people switch for the ‘cashback’ without realising what the minus sign in front of the £ figure means – not MSE followers I am sure. I was also surprised that the companies clearly know when people access some of the switch sites, and then try to head you off a move. I was glad to see even their employees do not understand the multitude of tariffs.

I was looking at switching again. Just checked, I'm with BGas on their "Market Monitoring tariff". They claim that they do the comparisoms for me. It'll cost £30 for each fuel to switch before October. Worth it if I can find one that costs over £60 less. The trouble is this tariff isn't showing up on the price comparisom sites.

I have had the letter for my "all electric" home, telling me I'm going onto the standard rate from this-time-last-year's on-line rate.

    Well I've consumed 14459 economy 7 units
and, here in S East 11297 higher rate units
    of EDF's electricity.

It is now two years since EDF (nuclear) held out against the rest of the suppliers with a low rate 12 month on-line tariff and collected a load of new customers. Last year I swapped to the latest version of EDF's on-line deal.

Here we are again its decision time.

Any one else having to make a similar decision?

Apologies if this may sound as a stupid question but with regards to switching, how soon can you do it? Are the contracts we enter into rolling monthly or annual? Im with Scottish Power on the Online Energy Reward (No Standing Charge) since July last year and if their imminent price hike I may wish to change onto another.
