Energy: Find the cheapest supplier & earn cashback

  • Hi

I was trying to decide which online EDF tariff to switch to either Fixed price 2014 or Online S@ver Version 12, after going through the switching procedure.

But I was tempted today to sign up for M&S Energy. They are offering £30 in vouchers on sign up and £80 from my fuel bills in December and further vouchers after 12 months. They are not fixed rates however, but their prices per kWh seem good and no tie in either.

Confused now and need to make a decision in a few days.

Need a crystal ball now , whether to take the M&S incentives now or fix with EDF.

    Decisions, decisions.
  • Think it will depend on your contract, best contact your supplier.

Is there anyone like me that really cannot be a*sed to chop and change? Whoever is the cheapest supplier now, will probably be the most expensive next time round! I just feel it will all balance out in the end.

If there was one company that was consistently the cheapest, surely everybody would sign up with them.
Thank you for reading this message.

Switch now - as a matter of urgency:

Scottish Power raises gas bills by 19%

Utility provider implements 'shocking' 19% rise in gas prices and 10% rise in electricity prices, as consumers are urged to switch and fix

I suspect I may have missed the boat - the cheapest fixed rate I can find comes out at approximately 18% greater than I currently pay with Scottish Power.

So I suspect my best bet is to stay put until everyone's put their prices up, and then switch to whichever is cheapest?

Possibly, but check prices for your area as those figures are headline ones only. For example, on my scottish power tarrif and area increases are 26% (Electricity) and 50% (Gas).

Where can I find my local increases? I can't find anything on the Scottish Power site, it just talks about averages.

Check your last bill (online in my case), which will have your current prices. You'll also see a box on page 1 with a load of digits. The bottom left one is your area, in my case S2.

Now go to their customer website, click Our Price Change - find out more and then follow the link to your payment method under How Does it Affect Me. Follow the link to see the PDF for your product and look down the list until your area is listed.

I am on BG essentials tariff, and know its due to increase soon. But how can I compare other tariffs to this one, as it is not on the options on the comparison sites?

Good grief. My increases come to about 38% electricity and 44% gas!
Time to switch - glad I asked!
