  • Forumman,

I understand the point you were trying to make, but I think you need to step back a bit & look at your post in the context of the rest of the forum.

Firstly, your initial post was made at 11pm last night. Most people, especially those with children or those who've got work the next day, were probably getting ready for bed so wouldn't have seen your thread until this morning. You nonetheless got a response within 20 minutes, & when you replied at 9.10am today you got several replies containing useful information. Secondly, many of us have threads we're particularly interested in marked as a 'favourite' so that we can easily pick them up again, or have them in our 'subscribed' list if we've already posted in them. If someone's keeping an eye on a particular situation (as many of us are doing with MOT), they might use the few minutes they've got spare to check on those threads & no others. That doesn't mean they're ignoring your post.

Lastly, but to me most importantly, people give their support here willingly & free of charge. Very few of us work in the financial field, but all of us who've had debts to deal with know the stress it can cause the individual & their family. For people to take the time to share that experience with others, whether by replying in a thread someone else has started or in their own diary thread, is something the majority of us appreciate. I've had my own diary thread running on the bankruptcy board for some 8 months, & I've lost count of how many people have posted or sent me PMs telling me how much it's helped them. My debts are sorted out now, but I still regularly post there, because there are still a lot of people who ask for help, & there are also many people who don't feel up to posting but who still read the threads hoping to find the answer to their problem.

People will help where they can. But sometimes people haven't seen your post because of when it was posted, or they don't know the answer & don't want to post incorrect information. It's also possible that some people wait hours for a reply, when making use of the 'Search' facility would have got them an answer within a few minutes - the existence of diary threads can't be blamed for that. I realise that when you're desperate for an answer, patience is one of the first things you run out of. However, people will do what they can if & when they can - as they're under no obligation to do anything, you will have to be a bit more patient if answers don't come as quickly as you'd like them. A forum is only as good as its contributors, so how about contributing a bit more & complaining a bit less? :)

20m response at 11pm on a Sunday night is pretty good.....what's the problem? Did you think you were the only person with debt problems that are asking for help on MSE? Or are your problems more problematic than anybody else's?

Get real Forumman - posters use this forum as a forum for advice & suggestions to help resolve their problems.....diaries are a way to keep track of the process & for others to see how posters have sorted similar problems.

If you are worried about your thread being "washed away", then maybe you should reply or bump it now & again...you are not the only poster wanting help. How many of the other threads in that 20 were newbies? I would bet approx 40% minimum....as at most times of the day.

New posters see the friendly advice & chat between regulars & other newbies as a signal that they can ask for help & not be rebuffed. All regulars were newbies at one time and there were diaries when I joined in 2006 - Oberon, Lynzpower etc...I can't remember people complaining then.....or maybe I replied & bumped, so my threads didn't get "washed away"

  • I think wherediditallgo summed it up nicely.

Also noticed that Forumman hasn't posted again, maybe he got the message that people do enjoy the chatty threads too and maybe he jumped the gun a little bit. I just hope he comes back and uses the board for what it is for, a lovely community of dfw's who will support you through your debt journey.
