Just in case you haven't thought of this - please do keep all items of personal sentimental value and also worth more ££. Sometimes nice jewelry is a bit tempting to some people. My friend in another country let her removal company pack her family heirloom journey - it didn't make it to the house. But it was small and she could have kept it on her!

Generally in these situations I put myself into the shoes of the would-be villian. I know they aren't all that bright, but it would be nuts for them to try this:

They have to hack the website and convince you they are the real company. They'd have to meet you, possibly meet spouses, children, neighbours all of whom can now give a great description. High chance of being caught on CCTV so van would have to have fake plates, which alone is risky if any ANPR cameras are around. They have to go to the effort of clearing your entire house, leaving fingerprints and DNA everywhere. Then when they get away they need to sift through the crap (of which, in terms of being able to resell on the sly, the majority will be), ditch the van contents somewhere and then sell on the tiny amount of decent gear. All of which can realistically only be done once as as soon as you report to the police they clearly cant keep up the charade of having the same faked website.

Or they could just break in and cherry pick the lot in 15 mins. I know which I'd pick.

    Generally ... pick.

Well when you put it like that it does put things in perspective. Good old Occam's Razor.

I trusted a room full of strangers who were about to put me out with drugs then carve up a bit of my body and replace it with a new bit ;)

Now that was risky! Talk about your life in their hands!

  • This thread made me laugh.

I've never had to use a removal firm but I think i'd be more worried about my furniture getting damaged than anything else. Them running off with the furniture would be least of my worries!

Me too. It's a good 'light relief' thread (and I hope it's made the OP feel happier too :)).

...And more 'stagger off' with the furniture than run off I should think!

Get a cheap android phone and a PAYG sim card.
Turn on location sharing in google maps and link it to your phone.
Pack it in the van hooked up to a USB battery bank.

Now you can track them in real time.
