How to be confident removal van won't run off with your stuff if you are not travelling together?

in what way do the comments of a bunch of internet scaremongers (who you know nothing whatsoever about) in any way, shape, or form, allay your paranoia?
Have you considered seeing your GP?0 -
We’ve moved twice in the last 2/3 years. On both occasions we used a recommended firm with 5* reviews. They were both a bit more expensive but the service we received on both occasions was outstanding. One of them had giant padded bags for armchairs and TVs.
The one thing that never occurred to us was that the removal men would run off with our things :rotfl:
We had 2 cars so anything very fragile and iPads/laptops etc went with us. As we were not moving a massive distance cat went into cattery until we had sorted ourselves out
OH says I am too trusting but sometimes you have to be. I trusted a room full of strangers who were about to put me out with drugs then carve up a bit of my body and replace it with a new bit0 -

Everyday life is a risk to some extent...you just need to decide which risks you are prepared to take, which ones to insure against and which ones to avoid.
I don't doubt that some people have been left without possessions due to either malicious or accidental occurrences when moving...but put it into context and weigh that up with the number of people who move without a hitch.in S 38 T 2 F 50

We used a local man and van service who came highly recommended. On moving day the owner and two other lads came with two Van's, loaded all of our belongings into the bigger Luton van and then drove off leaving us stood at an empty house while they dropped the empty van off at their next job.
I must admit it was an odd feeling watching them driving away with all of our belongings hoping we would see them again at the other end of the move.
We were somewhat relieved to see them parked on the drive of the new house when we got there!
The service we got from them was superb that day and well worth the £300 it cost us.0 -
£300? We moved from Essex to Devon yesterday and it cost us £2600!"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

We've also moved several times and have used everything from Bishop's Move to a man plus van found on facebook (not to mention doing it ourselves once or twice). Our most expensive move cost over £4k, long distance within mainland UK and involved moving a few pieces of antique furniture one of which had an insurance value of £5k.
I don't recall being worried that the removers would abscond with all our stuff - even when they a) travelled to our new home the night before us or b) moved our worldly goods into their storage facility area days ahead of the move itself. That's what insurance is for.
We also paid extra for export wrapping - I think that's what they called it - to ensure our most precious furniture items were protected during transit.
Like previous posters we took smaller, fragile or especially valuable or irreplaceable items in the car with us. Our pets either travelled with us or went into kennels a day or two ahead of the move.
On one occasion a removal company lost the pedal for my sewing machine and I recall that next time we moved I insisted on taking my collection of arts and crafts pottery to my parents' house in the car to ensure none went missing/got broken. That was in 2011. We've moved a further twice since and I've got over my paranoia, lol :rotfl:Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

Pimento. Yes £300.
It was a move from Sheffield to Worksop so not a massive distance by any means. But they did all of the heavy lifting and made the job so much easier for us.
We already had everything boxed up and labelled up and moved downstairs ready to go. They had the old house empty in an hour and at the other end everything unloaded and in the right room in just over an hour.
We had no breakages and the lads were super careful in the new build house to make sure nothing got damaged.
Excellent service from the lads at Hero who are Sheffield based.0
