Of course you could probably pay them to do a runner if you wanted to make an inflated insurance claim however they would want ALOT of money

Good grief, paranoia or what? lol

When I moved I used a company based in the country I was moving too so had never heard of them , and sent my furniture over a week before I travelled. Them stealing it never crossed my mind. Like who would want a bunch of second hand furniture?
  • I've moved about six (seven?) times with all kinds of companies - from a man with a van I met at a bus stop all the way to a big national company - and never had a big problem. I think we lost a snow shovel once? Miraculously my wedding ring got lost the morning of one move and showed up wrapped in a bed sheet in the new house that evening! :D

Take photos of anything valuable or important before it's moved in case it gets damaged or lost.

I always take fragile, sensitive or valuable things separately with me (laptops, rude books, contents of the drinks cabinet, heirlooms, jewellery, any very ... personal items ;) ).

    Happy moving!

It's called contents insurance. As others have said, if it's irreplaceable, take it with you (especially if it's alive)

Good luck and, seriously, get a grip.

I know moving is horrible, even if it's to your dream house but you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs () so you will have to move your stuff one way or another. Using an established moving firm is probably the way to go unless you want to hire a van (and several strong men) and make multiple trips. If you pay the movers to pack your stuff, I believe it is covered by their insurance as well as yours.

    Good luck to you.

I carry completely irreplaceable items (e.g. wedding photos, some old family bits and pieces) in the car. Everything else is covered by my house insurance. *shrug*

I do hope your cat goes in the car with you! :rotfl:

Where is your head, pinkteapot? Sod the wedding photos, someone will have them on their i-whatsit; tiggers are irreplaceable.

Ok thanks guys. I really just wanted to hear some reassurance is all :).

    That's good.

So just to make you feel a bit paranoid again...

Imagine you have almost everything you own packed in a removal truck, and then this happens:

I would be looking forward to getting some new goods (not having to throw away 20% of things which aren't right for the new house, and some compo for pain and suffering on top
