How to be confident removal van won't run off with your stuff if you are not travelling together?

I did the checks and booked the one with not just best reviews but one with the longest unbroken chain of reviews over time dating back maybe 10 years.

I also checked their presence on other places than their website and they also have a semi active (ie every few months) facebook page and also had been active for some years on a local forum.

I have been watching 'the real hustle' as I only just discovered it on youtube (haven't had a TV for years) and it made me start second guessing everything :rotfl:

I wondered what if the website expired and someone else had just taken it over usurping all that previous history they had garnered.

If they are actually the right person I should feel confident not to worry about them with my stuff as with such a presence online and contact details they would not want tarnish that rep right?

But what about the usurper hypothesis? It is easy to just use the waybackmachine or internet archive and take the last good iteration of a webpage.

Any other considerations? I think I did all the due diligence (I could think of) when looking for the best one.

Check your home insurance covers you for moving day and stop thinking so hard...

There's no guarantee but running off with your stuff is really going to undo over a decade of work.

There's careful - and then there's paranoid ;) If you found their website on wayback machine, if they have their name plastered on things and haven't changed it, they'll be fine I'm sure.

Don't you think you might have found the odd review or hundred saying 'avoid at all costs, they run off with all my stuff'?

Always good to get recommendations from people you know.

What area? Someone may be able to suggest a company. If you're that worried, go with Pickfords or another biggie.

Even if you were travelling with them, I'm sure they could find a way to get rid of you. If they really wanted to.

Yes, possibly avoid Kray Twins Removals Inc. if you happen to come across them. :)

Seriously, OP, don't panic. I think it's extremely unlikely.

You need to deal with your paranoia.

Respectfully, your 'stuff' probably consists of mainly low value furniture, used clothing and some CDs. I know it is valuable to you, but realistically, it has virtually no financial value to anyone else.

If you are travelling in convoy with them, just make sure you put your lap top and any other small valuable items in your car.

I carry completely irreplaceable items (e.g. wedding photos, some old family bits and pieces) in the car. Everything else is covered by my house insurance. *shrug*
  • Ok thanks guys. I really just wanted to hear some reassurance is all :).

I packed and took in my car sentimental / really fragile items. The rest the company would've been welcome to to save me unpacking (incl a suitcase full of washing from the holiday we'd just come back from :rotfl:)

The removal company just want an empty van as quickly as possible, the easiest way to do that is to deliver your stuff to your new house.
  • A neighbour used to work for one of the National moving companies and this exact topic of having goods stolen came up in the pub one night.

His response was that if such a thing happened, those who were responsible or even simply suspected of being responsible would be sacked and word would go out in the industry not to employ them. In his words, the industry relies on trustworthiness and recommendations so anyone doing such a thing wouldn’t get work.

As such, I think you’ll be perfectly safe.
