Did you actually follow ANY of the advice gleaned from this forum??
Travel agent insurance?? Oman Air??
Honestly, sometimes I don't know what people are thinking.
I must admit at the time I was taken aback when you wrote that you had already booked everything, along with insurance.
Anyway, now you're stuck with having to book via Lee's Travel.
Have they found a solution?0 -
Spoke to Lees Travel, they are on with it, there are flights available the day before we were supposed to go so he said if worse comes to worse we'll be on that one, which shouldn't affect our itinerary much. They are still pushing to get us on flights for the same dates though at the minute so fingers crossed everything will work itself out. Tried to ring oman air but they only work 9-5 which is bobbins, tried ringing head office but had severe language barriers!!! Hopefully will hear something back today?!?!?!
Nightmare!!Love being a mummy0 -

Donnie, this is not helpful for someone in shock.
The agent offered a pretty good price that included insurance, so this seems to be a different situation from someone just buying the agent's insurance because they don't know they could get a better deal elsewhere. Nor, at the time of booking, was there any particular reason to avoid Oman Air: all airlines have to start flying to the UK at some point, and other airlines from that part of the world (Emirates; Qatar; Etihad; Gulf) are better than average.0 -
Just a thought...
Since you booked accommodation at Gatwick along with your flights, perhaps you are covered by the protection that applies to package holidays. If so, your agent will be obliged to ensure that things work out for you.
There is an important lesson here: things can and do go wrong in the world of travel, and when that happens it is good to have an agent on your side. Had the OP booked the flights to Thailand on the internet, and then suffered cancellation, her situation would have been a good deal worse.0 -

We don't have to agree. So, I won't.
I don't think it was a spectacular deal, since I'd already priced up a deal with tried and trusted airlines which included Worldwide Annual Travel Insurance.
There would have been change from her original spend.
So, it was a little irritating when the OP confirmed her deal without checking with someone who had some experience of these things. After all, that was the reason why she posted here in the first place.
As to your Internet cancellation hypothesis, you are wide of the mark.
Especially as the airline from which I obtained a quote flies daily.
Apart from that, dealing with an airline is a WHOLE LOT easier than dealing with an airline via a travel agent.
Does her TA Travel Insurance policy cover her for flying one day before the date that she was due to fly?
So, it might not be helpful, but it is truthful.
Now, if we can help, we will. But at the moment, it's out of our hands.0 -
Hi, i would still have had to arrangeconnecting flights from manchester to heathrow with your deal so all in all i still think the deal was (now a little unsure!!) a fairly good one. However, there's no point me pondering on 'if onlys' and 'i wish i'd' as that will drive me even more bonkers than i already am.
Still no news on whats going on at the minute, will again have to ring when i get home from work
Thanks for your ideas and supportLove being a mummy0 -
Of course, I'd priced in the connections. The flights plus Annual Insurance(90 days per journey. No excess) were £1600.
Leaving £200 for the connections. Easy to save another £40 on the Annual Insurance.
Anyway, as you say, it's done now. It's just a little frustrating when you want to help, but can't.0 -
I have no problem with Lee's Travel. They used to be one of my recommended travel agents many moons ago.
It's ust easier to organise things for yourself these days.0 -
Lees travel are going to get back to us before the end of the week, this waiting round is terrible.
We at least i'll learn from my mistakes, it'll make my next holiday a whole lot better!!!Love being a mummy0 -
Just to put a dampner on this. Why are you going to spend approx £3000 on a holiday when you have debts of £12000+.0
