Hi
Me and my oh were due to fly out to Thailand on the 23/12/07 for 3 weeks, we've just had a phone call saying these flights have been cancelled . We are waiting for her to phone back (either today or tomorrow ch pff - very vague!!) but have no idea where we stand!!
I have booked all our accomodation and internal flights for our stay separately, if we do not manage to get flights is this all covered with our insurance.
I have the documents which i will check when i finish work but just wondering if anyone had been in a similar situation??
Needless to say i'm gutted, this was my dream holiday and at the moment i feel as though i'm gonna lose a lot over this.
Boo hoo

As it's not a 'package' per se, this is, unfortunately, exactly the kind of thing that can happen, and you are only entitled to your money back for the flights.
But, who would cancel Xmas flights to Thailand? The flight would be full after all. Who were you flying? What was the reason you were given? Are you sure it wasn't an error on their behalf?
And perhaps more pertinently, let us all know your dates, and your to / from dates, the total price paid and people can have a look in case some miraculous flights are available.0 -
I had my Boxing Day flights to Calgary with Air Transat cancelled last month. The flight was full and had been since September. It's disgusting that they can do this to people who have made plans around these flights.
Luckily I managed to get on a flight with another airline who had just had a cancellation but even now it's left a feeling of anxiety about my trip, I'll be checking in so early, then I can finally relax!
Good luck with it all.:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -
Yes, I'd be very interested in the details.
I remember your thread where EVA was recommended at £882 each for direct flights or £750 from Gatwick.
But it appears that you paid £900 and are flying from Gatwick, not Heathrow. So, interested in what has occurred.0 -
Hi everyone, thanks for your comments.
When we were booking, everything was selling out fast, prices were rising every day. We rang Lees Travel, and for £1800 we got our insurance, flight from manchester to gatwick (which are still ok) then from gatwick to muscat (cancelled) and from muscat to bangkok (cancelled) and the return flights via same route with an over night stay in gatwick setting off from bangkok on the 12/01/08 and arriving back in manchester on the 13/01/08. They've not given a reason why, my oh took the phone call and i think was in shock at the time.
We were meant to set off at 6pm ish on the 23/12/07 from manchester and eventually arriving in BKK about midnight on the 24/12/07 (looong journey but i thought it was worth it!!)
We have 3 nights in Bangkok booked and flights down to Krabi and staying on Koh Lanta.
We've not heard back from them yet, i don't even know what they are doing really, i'm at work so can't sort much out til this evening.
Stressful!! Hopefully more flights will come up, or i will wake up and its been a dream!!Love being a mummy0 -
You were booked on Oman Air, who only started flying from the UK last weekend.
I guess they started selling the flights before they got the planes / slots / staff etc etc etc
I find it strange they didn't re-book you the day before / after. Still, lets see if Lees can help you any.
Oh, I reckon you can get MAN - LHR - BKK on EVA, out on 23rd, back on 13 Jan (leave and arrive in Manchester) for around £1900. Get Lees onto the job before it's too late, and they should be able to transfer the money (presuming they work with EVA?).0 -
Will do, feel useless sat behind my desk at work, can't concentrate!! I Will start making phone calls as soon as i get in, thanks for the advice! I'll keep you all informedLove being a mummy0

I don't know if it's any help but I've just had a look and you can fly from Manchester to Dubai and then on to Bangkok with Emirates Airlines on 23rd, coming back 12th for £924.50 per person on Expedia. Saves you having to fly to London. I've flown Emirates a number of times and they're a good airline and you get a couple of hours at Dubai Airport in their duty free.
I hope you get yourself sorted out after all the hassle!0 -
I'm gonna get there somehow!! If there's still flights available thats a weight off my mind, Oh is on the phone to Lees Travel now, hopefully they'll sort us something otherwise we'll just have to sort it ourselves! Don't mind changing over at other places either which is a little more helpful. Thanks again everyone!! xLove being a mummy0

Omar Air? Who here recommended them to you? A little too quick on that booking button?
Anyway, no need to panic. You can still fly from London for under £800.
Did you get Comprehensive Annual Insurance or will you need to buy another policy?0 -
We bought the insurance offered to us with the travel agents, not got the info with me so will have to check out the details when i get home. Yup way to giddy when it came to booking this!
I've learnt a very valuble lesson, similar to the other one i learned when i turned up at the airport for a holiday with an expired passport - i am the master of holiday disastersLove being a mummy0
