...Spotted in ASDA, (BOLTON, LANCASHIRE), DVD Player for ....... £12.97......an ONYK? I think ... anyone out there seen a cheaper price than this anywhere?
I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago and it has been an excelent dvd player. It is small (around 21cm square, so can be put in some of the smallest spaces) and is multi region, so you can play all your imported films. Tends to hang on non original films.
  • "Good little combo. A lot of guys at my work have these and it plugs straight into TV via RCA (if you only have SCART input then you will need to pick up an RCA -> Scart converter).

So basically you transfer all your avi / divx / xvid files (WMV doesn't work) onto the drive and then plug the drive straight into your TV when you want to watch stuff.

Good thing about these is you can take them round to a mates house, on holiday etc, so you always have a load of films and TV with you.[/quote]"

OK Im happy with the idea of an HDD enclosure but how do you connect to the TV. USB cable connects to where? I have a scart TV, a 30 gig HDD External Hard Drive and a lot of photographs I would like to view on my tv screen.

Any help appreciated for a man who knows how to turn on and use a PC but not a lot more about technology!!

Does the Mikomi 287 work in France?
  • Hi, Does anyone know of the cheapest twin screen DVD player - I want one for in-car entertainment for my 2 grandchildren. Cheapest I have seen (other than reconditioned ones on e-bay) are around £149. Any help gratefully received
  • Anyone know of a DVD player with a UHF output on it? i.e. a TV aerial type connector as an output to the TV? The reason is that I have a crackingly good old Sony TV that doesn't have a SCART and I'd like a cheap DVD player to tide me over until I replace the set with a flat screen and a top notch DVD player.
I believe that some DVD recorders have an UHF output, so as an alternative what is the cheapest one of these?

Last Jan we bought a twin Goodmans from Ebuyer. Yuck - no batteries just ran off the cigarette lighter but the slightest bump and you lost power.

I still need to claim a refund or replacement from them.

In desperation we bought two Portable DVD players. The cheapest Matsuis from Dixons/ Currys did the trick. They have a 2 hour battery life but you can run them off a double adapter for the cigarette lighter.

The pros are that the passengers don't have to watch the same thing and the battery keeps them going if the cigarette lighter cable wobbles. You can also take them out of the car and use them at home etc. using the battery or mains.

The cons are that they are slightly more expensive than an "in-car" twin screen DVD and that they don't charge up from the cigarette lighter.

I don't think these are quite the same as the ones as we got in the summer but the cheapest on the Dixons site is the Matsui MAT 701 at £60 a pop - so £120 a pair plus delivery. Add a cigarette lighter double adapter and a couple of headrest/ carry cases for them (Ebay?)

I bought an LG video with built in freeview decoder a couple of years ago from ebay. This has a UHF output. I have never seen them on sale in any shops in UK but may be worth a look to see if anything similar is going on ebay.
