Yes it was the same backplate and it worked before
If you refit the old frontplate does it then work? If so the new frontplate must be faulty.

Check this vid 7mins in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkFMfB-DYmQ

When you refit the faceplate on, it connects through 3 pins on the bottom of the test socket to connect the blue extension wiring...maybe they're damaged ?

When I now connect my extensions into where they supposed to go (the blue connections on the front of the back plate) I have put the new Mk4 faceplate and also the old faceplate (the same as the video) the extensions do not work.

Obviously not at the same time either one or the other

No - the only way the extensions will work is if connected to the rear of the Mk4 faceplate

So did you swap out the backplate, ? If not, why we the extensions disconnected ?
  • Ian is correctly leading you through a logical problem solving process.
Also bear in mind that the cause could be elsewhere such as damaged idc connector (on the blue cam backplate ) not making proper contact, damage to the circuit on the backplate (the circuit from the frontplate return to backplate) or the existing extension wiring you are reusing.

If you have test equipment then continuity tests might help isolate which area is at fault (there may be more than one) plus a visual inspection which might have to include both sides of the backplate!

So did you check for damage to the test socket pins as these are the common denominator whichever faceplate you fit ?.

Exactly - I've had this problem in the past. (Once with the pins on the test socket, and once with the pins on the faceplate plug).

I take it the OP has decided not to let us know if they've reached a resolution to this issue ?

I did check the test socket pins and all seems ok I also tried both face plates - no difference
  • Do remember the other common factors: backplate, cam idc connectors, extension cables and yourself (just in case you are making an error somehow!). Faults may have been introduced during your modifications.
