BT NTE5C master socket

Apologies, link copied twice https://www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/home/helpandsupport/how-toguides/howtoguides/downloads/NTE5C_Instructions_CP.pdf
Thank you, It is the home wiring (Blue connection) I am trying to connect extensions to but it wont work.0 -

You clearly take exception to my statement saying all user connections go via the faceplate.
As you know better please clarify which allowable user connections do not.
I believe quoting my whole post and saying I do not understand can mislead others as well as being incorrect.
I stand by what I posted because I still believe that you are not in a position to give advice on something that you clearly do not understand yourself.
Your first post #5 provided no helpful information to aardvaak, only confusion about what he should and should not do and scaremongering about BT charges.
BT advisors have instructed people to replace broken master sockets or to fit more modern variants themselves on their forum rather than to call BT.
I did at least provide a link to a video which fully explains the Master Socket 5c Mk4 and it's connections, which would have been sufficient explanation for most.Heedtheadvice wrote: »Unless @thorganby objects we should not continue with this part of the thread as, apart from clarifying what one can and cannot officially do (so those who do things improperly know the risks) it does nothing further to help with the original question!
The original question was about the extension sockets now not working but aardvaak has not given sufficient information regarding how the extensions were wired previously and how he has now wired them.
He has not explained what he expects from the extension sockets, only that they no longer work now.
He has not explained where he has his router plugged in or if he has ADSL filters in the extension sockets.
If he is expecting broadband at the extension sockets, he obviously does not understand the basics and should have fitted the "new Master Socket 5c Mk4"!0 -

I expect the extensions to work as telephones also at present the Home Hub 6 Modem/Router is connected to one of the extensions
The reason I put the new Mk4 cover on the master socket is because I was told I would get faster internet speeds and I would no longer need dangle filters on the extensions0 -

The Home Hub 6 Modem/Router will never work connected to one of the extensions as the extension connector on the new socket 5c Mk4 is filtered, so no broadband.
You need to give more info and not assume that we know what you mean!
You and Heedtheadvice were informed that "Telephone extensions are wired to the back plate, not the removable faceplate" way back in post #6
Obviously neither of you understood the full explanation of the NTE5C master socket with the Mk4 VDSL filter front that was given in the video provided.
You replied in post #8Mk4 socket is in three parts:-
1. The plate that screws to the wall
Agreed
2. The back plate which has the line from outside connected to the rear which I can not touch and the connections on the front of that I can
The connections on the front of the backplate that you have connected your extensions to are filtered as explained in the video!
3. The front plate of the Mk4 with connections at the rear.
The connections on the rear of the Mk 4 front plate are unfiltered broadband data.
If your objective was to get faster internet speed by fitting the Mk 4 filtered faceplate, you have wasted your money as you do not understand how to use it.
Unless you have your router plugged into the faceplate and your extensions wired to the blue extension connection, the Mk 4 faceplate is pointless and unlikely to make any difference.0 -
If the extension is connected from an unfiltered connection at the master socket, if you want to connect both the router and a phone to that extension then you'd need a dangly filter.
If the extension is connected from a filtered connection at the master socket then the router is unlikely to work.0 -

Right! At present I have my extensions (which my hub is connected to one of) connected to the terminals on the rear of the Mk4 faceplate.
The phones and broadband are working ok (despite it being said on here that connection is only for data.
However the extensions should be connected to the front of the back plate (Blue connections) but they wont work there - that is what my original question is about ie how to correct this.0 -
If the wiring is in the blue connection as per instructions, and you've refitted the front cover, and they still dont work logic would therefore indicate you have a faulty socket ?0
-
You say you had an NTE5C before so the extensions must've been in the blue connectors already as it has the same backplate... ?0
-
Check this vid 7mins in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkFMfB-DYmQ
When you refit the faceplate on, it connects through 3 pins on the bottom of the test socket to connect the blue extension wiring...maybe they're damaged ?0
